Coming back into the US and noticing all the fats walking around

Or wobbling around. And it isn’t just the obvious tubs of goo, but ol’ baws with large spare tires or middle aged pear shaped women.
My mind goes to the idea that our food system loads everyone with high fructose corn syrup. But also is it laziness? Genetics?

yes.
The average American male is 5'9"/197 lbs.
Average American female is 5'4"/171 lbs.
We are doomed. The averages are up 10 or 15 lbs since 2000

I’ve been noticing it a lot more lately. Everywhere you go there are just huge people. It’s sad.
Posted on 5/16/22 at 8:45 am to weagle99
its a combination of alot of shite.
Just came back from a dutch island all of the dutch people were skinny. maybe 1 out of 50 were overweight. I dont think I saw a single fatass kid either, the fatties I saw were all like 60+.

In the macro, it’s not genetics… it’s our diet more than anything imo.

I think it's just normalized behavior mixed with ignorance.
Jim is 225 and sees John who is 250 and thinks he isn't so bad. John sees Tim at 300 and thinks he isn't that bad off.
Tim tries to lose weight by eating a salad covered in ranch, croutons, and bacon and can't understand why the pounds aren't shedding off. Tim thinks he is active because he hunts and fishes whenever the weather allows and works around the house, so he just must be a big guy. Also, he tried to eat healthy and it's just unrealistic. Nobody can actually do that.
This is all fictional and in my head, I'm well aware.

has nothing to do with anything. thats just a vehicle for the calories, doesnt change law of thermodynamics.
in the end its because of lack of steps or movement overall(neat- non exercise thermogensis), less than 10% of the population lifts weights, and overall we eat huge portions and are meals are never simple compared to other countries.

It’s the real pandemic.
Way more dangerous than climate change. Yet gets completely ignored.

People have been fat for so long that their minds have been permanently warped into thinking it's normal. We fill our bodies with unhealthy food and way too much of it and don't move enough. People underestimate their caloric intake and overestimate their physical activity.

Or maybe you’ve returned to the most successful and bountiful country on earth?
I understand criticizing poor health choices, but do you ever consider how lucky and blessed we are that we have the luxury to make those poor choices? And the means to fulfill them?
I’m not condoning the behavior. But it’s
Like bitching about how wasteful we are and material we can be. We’re lucky we have the luxury to do so.

Fat, stupid and lazy is how most Americans go through life.
Posted on 5/16/22 at 8:53 am to weagle99
This goes to show that even with all our problems America is still the greatest place on earth. Even the poorest Americans have enough food to be fatasses

Americans... Let's face it: We've been a spoiled country for a long time
Do you know what the number one health risk in America is?
Obesity. Obesity! They say we're in the middle of an obesity epidemic
An epidemic like it is polio. Like we'll be telling our grand kids about it one day
The Great Obesity Epidemic of 2004
"How'd you get through it grandpa?"
"Oh, it was horrible Johnny, there was cheesecake and pork chops everywhere."
Nobody knows why were getting fatter? Look at our lifestyles!
I'll sit at a drive thru
I'll sit there behind fifteen other cars instead of getting up to make the eight foot walk to the totally empty counter
Everything is mega meal, super sized
"Want biggie fries with that? Want a jumbo fry, wanna go large
Want a biggie fry, wanna have thirty burgers for a nickel, you fat motherfricker?"
"There's room in the bag. Take it!"
"Want a 55 gallon drum of Coke with that? It's only three more cents."
Baby sing, sing, sing... Sing your song
Sing for me... (Come on now sing)
Baby sing, sing, sing... Sing your song
Sing for me... (Sing a song)

People also don't get the right amount of or right kind of sleep.
It's down the list on what's causing the weight problems, but it's definitely on the list. And for some people trying to lost weight but not being able to get over the hump, it could be their sleeping habits undermining all of their hard work.
I wonder how much the average weight would go down if there weren't a TV in every bedroom. Or if everyone still used alarm clocks instead of their cell phones, allowing them to leave their phone in another room at night.

100%. Not getting the proper sleep means your body isn't performing optimally. Eventually, even if you're exercising properly, you'll get worn down due to lack of sleep, start missing workouts due to fatigue or injury, etc. We don't treat our bodies right and it shows.

Just came back from a dutch island
Not as many desk jobs on a small island. People are always moving. Walking more or riding bikes instead of driving a car. Also people are eating more seafood and chicken vs. hamburgers and other fattening meals. More fruit intake vs chocolate and baked sweets.
Plus when it's hot outside your arse is sweating. You can't sit inside the A/C all day on an island.
It's not hard to figure out why Americans are fat. Sedentary lifestyle with poor diet practices.
