Yeah but I’m other countries you don’t have a choice. You starve. They’re not skinny cause they choose to be. They’re skinny cause they don’t have the resources to be gluttonous.

ehhh, There's way more to the system of eating than calories in and out. Yes, it's the end result of negative calories to lose weight but high fructose corn syrup and other types of foods lead to overeating. Highly processed foods just aren't filling.

Eating 2000 calories of McDonalds or eating 2000 calories of whole foods that are balanced is a vastly different experience in terms of body composition and diet integrity.

I went to San Francisco recently. The amount of overweight people I saw was a stark comparison with living in Louisiana. Here, we’re ground zero.

Tim tries to lose weight by eating a salad covered in ranch, croutons, and bacon and can't understand why the pounds aren't shedding off. Tim thinks he is active because he hunts and fishes whenever the weather allows and works around the house, so he just must be a big guy. Also, he tried to eat healthy and it's just unrealistic. Nobody can actually do that.

You forgot he washed it down with the Big Gulp of Diet Coke, or chose the unsweet tea and loaded it up with the artificial sweetener packets

Don't know why you're getting down voted. Everything you said is 100% true.

Calories in >>> calories out. It's that simple.

Sure, there are some genetics involved, meaning that some people gain/lose weight easier than others.

But the "I can't lose weight because of my genetics/metabolism/hormones/etc" is bullshite.

There were no obese prisoners liberated from German concentration camps. On the other hand, cows eat mostly grass, but they're fat.

When you can go to a fast food restaurant and order about 3000 calories for 5$ or go into the supermarket and buy one of those containers of already peeled fruit for about 8$, what do you expect.

yeah that's true for 3rd world countries.

But you see the difference in the prevalence of obesity between the US and European countries.

I had the opportunity to work in Paris for 6 weeks several years ago. I ate anything I wanted and drank almost a bottle of wine a night. Lost 5 lbs.

It wasn't just because I was eating less processed food. I was walking on average almost 5 miles a day.

There were very few fat people in Paris. 9 times out of ten, if you saw a fatty, they were American.

That’s just simply untrue any longer.

Eating healthy isn’t more expensive than eating poorly. It’s just that we are addicted to easy, empty calories.

It’s so easy to simply call a to-go-order or Uber-eats a cheese smothered or deep fried meal. And I’m guilty as shite of this.

Another thing, we simply don’t eat good natural food any longer. Mass produced food is necessary to feed our cities and urban areas, but picking non-ripe fruit and vegetables so that they last longer in the store just isn’t as good for you.

We are growing a summer garden and it has started producing grape tomatoes and summer squash. They taste so much more rich, filling, and flavorful than the same fruits we buy from the store.

There was a guy here this week asking about a riding lawn mower for his 100 x 100 yard.

-Almost every house on our street has Mexicans cutting their grass for them.
-Most families have dual incomes and less free time for activities, even just dropping off a kid for play dates is less common.
-Many schools dramatically reduced or eliminated PE/recess
-Neighborhoods aren't all setup for bike riding like "the old days," it's plain dangerous to send kids out in some places that have zero shoulder or sidewalk.
-Kids are on devices. Parents are on devices. Even when you get them outside, they are so used to "instant gratification," that almost everything else is boring by comparison.
-sleep schedules have been wrecked. It's not uncommon to hear about kids getting just a few hours of sleep per night because of devices.
-Sporting activities have been taken over by obsessives, and kids that would have played "for fun" have fewer options
-Less people cook at home than ever. In 1960, meal prep time was 2 hours. It's now under 15 minutes, and that's for people that cook.
-Families go for convenience food or fast food
-what's actually in our food?
-zero concept of portion size. It is so common to see 1 person eat what is actually intended for 2 or more.
-Soft drinks are always on sale... buy 1 case, get 2 free!

I was going to say this. Outside of very poor countries, no one is starving to death for the most part. There are rich countries all over Europe who have a culture of fitness and moderation.

According to various web sites, the average life expectancy of Americans had dropped to 76.9, decreasing almost every year. Life expectancy in Japan is 84.7. Spent 10 days visiting my son in Japan, & noted the discrepancy in obesity between the 2 races is startling. Diet & lifestyle are the biggest differences I saw in those 10 days. Many many ride bikes everywhere, all ages. The typical Japanese meal at a restaurant consists of 6-7 smaller, different courses. Here, we eat a fried seafood platter covered in french fries & mabe a salad. Look in the grocery baskets of obese shoppers here, then notice the size of their children with them.
