Let’s remove these items from SNAP benefits. You can only purchase healthy food with gubment subsidies

Lol. They would never restrict what the government can spend money on, just you.

Healthy is already more expensive. Do we really wanna jack up the price even more?

How about just educating people that soft drinks are bad for your kid and you?

They are just going to go home and drink out of the 2 liter

We'll be told that these poor people of color are just too dumb to know that drinking pure corn syrup is bad for them so the govt has to put the onus on private businesses to educate them/stop them from making bad choices.

Setting aside the government mandate from a nutritional POV it is better than you are giving it credit for. Replacing a non-diet soda with milk reduces the caloric content of a Happy Meal by ~10% and the milk has lots of useful nutrients where the soda is all empty calories. This represents a food choice that can make a large impact over time.

Like fast food high fructose juice drinks better than soda. Apple Juice has more carbs, sugar, and probably syrup than a coke.

Kids meals in general are terrible for kids

All this will do is ensure shitty parents now order adult sized meals with adult sized drinks and give them to their kids ramping up instead of tamping down obesity

Agreed. Some people just want to bitch about everything. Its not perfect, but at least its a step in the right direction.

It’s not a step in the right direction if you’re wanting to reduce calories but retaining fruit juices if they aren’t freshly squeezed.

But it makes people feel good and that’s apparently all politicians are supposed to do today. frick and try ally doing anything, does it make people feel good cough*masks*cough

Water is the only healthy option.

Only humans drink milk from another animal and a drinking a box of apple juice is the sugar equivalent of eating 2 apples.

This should make a real dent in childhood obesity. Meanwhile, you can order Coke on Amazon and pay with SNAP EBT.

Juice is diabetes in a drink. And honestly, the diabetic endemic runs rampant in the black community, where their main weapon of choice for this is juice drinks

The frick are you talking about?

12 oz of coke is 145 calories
12 oz of 2% milk is 171 calories

Fat future diabetic kids are going to get just as fat and diabetic with a milk or juice
