Client texting unurgent requests late at night

Received a text from a client at 10:57pm tonight requesting confirmation of a tracking number while i was trying to watch a film with my wife. This request could have easily waited until the morning.

I would ignore it and tell them I was sleeping. Provide the requested info first thing in the morning, so they don't think you are ignoring them.

I block troublesome clients in the evening. I just have to remember to unblock by morning.

Better a text than a call. The client sent the message when he thought about it so he wouldn't forget, knowing you wouldn't respond until you were ready, without bothering you with a call. What are you bitching about?

If you felt comfortable enough to give them your cell and they feel comfortable enough to text you at 11pm, you should be comfortable enough to tell them to frick off til morning.

If you are salary and work for an organization that requires you to be on call 6 months out of the year... but they don’t pay you, is there no regulations around this? Are companies allowed to ask this of their employees that may have the same job title but different teams which require different on call schedules? Same base pay but on call requirements vary wildly

My boss sent me a message the other morning at 3:57 a.m. while he was on vacation.

Bad/trouble client waits until the AM, good/important client gets the info ASAP.
Honestly, if I can do it quickly at the time I like to get it done, it generally takes more of my time total to do it later. The only time I don't respond is if the info is hard to get where I am at or at the time of day or I am trying to avoid rewarding the overreaching expectations of a crappy client.
