I guess you can say he redeemed himself, but Disney should still charge the idiot father for inconveniencing the cruise ship.

Major props to dad.
And fortunately, this did not happen to him.
He’d literally have been screwed.

We've pulled over on the river for hours and while the women folk float around on tubes or rafts, I've never not just treaded water. While drinking.
Get the frick out of here.

Some initial reports are stating that the father had placed the child on the railing to take a picture, but we are still gathering information before these reports can be substantiated.
One comment on social media stated, “From bystanders he was holding her on the railing they were taking pictures.”

Figures this would happen on Disney not many fathers on Carnival cruises

What do you mean charge him? You mean press criminal charges or asses financial charges with the reasoning being inconvenience?

The "brave father" was also an incredible dumbass who sat his child on the railing of the ship.
Disney should tack on the cost of the rescue to his tab. He's a moron.

Prolly 6'4" tall, shredded, and would look like a Auschwitz resident if his BMI was under 30.
This is the OT, after all.

I don't get the financial retribution angle......What cost? Gas in the rescue boats? What would that possibly accomplish?
It looks like the Dream made it back to port on time and is currently moored at the dock. I'd imagine they had to go through some additional steps before passengers can disembark and they should depart again on time today for their next sailing.
DCL makes about $3 billion annually and while the accident was nothing that was planned, I just don't see what "fining" the man would do.

Treading water and floating are two different things. If youre practiced at floating, you could easily float for 20 minutes.
They didnt mention if he caught, or swam to, one of the life rings that were tossed to him.
Id imagine a life rings would help mark the spot even if it wasn’t in reach.

I have been skipping this thread because I assumed they were both missing and presumed dead. What an awesome read!

Will be curious to see how the sentiment in this thread changes from "dad of the year" if it's confirmed he had set her on the railing and was, in fact, the reason she went over.

Treading water in the ocean in the wake of a cruise ship is not the same as treading water in a calm creek/river/lake on the weekend around dozens of your closest acquaintances.
Salinity helps with buoyancy, though.
However, treading water holding your child while hoping they will find you in their wake is impressive as all get out.

Damn what a scary situation. Glad both of them are ok.

Kudos to the dad for jumping in without a moment's notice to save his kids. I'd like to think that I would do the same thing. But jumping off of a moving cruise ship is a scary thing that is almost certain death.
I'd much rather ensure my child never climbs the rails to begin with, so that I'm never placed in the situation.
