Chicago seems like a wonderful city - why does everyone here shite on it?

Just spent a week in Chicago. We stayed at an AirBnB in Jefferson Park. We drove into the city each day, and thoroughly enjoyed our time. When we were at the AirBnB, we loved the family friendly vibe of the neighborhood. School was still in session, and it was nice seeing so many kids walk to school. Kids were playing outside in the afternoons.
When we were downtown, there was plenty of security. Even the public restrooms were clean. We never felt unsafe or threatened in any way. We spent time at Millennium Park, Hyde Park, the Magnificent Mile, and Navy Pier. Yes, these were touristy areas, but it seems like many neighborhoods in the area are safe with a tremendous amount of things to do.
Were there big city problems? Sure. Traffic was bad everywhere, but multiple public transit options are available. There were some homeless guys around in the city but nothing compared to New Orleans or Atlanta. There are bad neighborhoods to avoid but that’s the case for every city in America.
Almost every time Chicago is posted here, there’s a negative opinion of it. That’s it’s a bankrupt shite hole with corruption at its core.
But it seemed pretty nice for one of the largest cities in the world.
So why the hate?

Kinda with you. Went last November, early November, and it was really nice. We had a great time and are looking forward to going back.

It is an awesome city. Some people just don't like any town that has more than three traffic lights and a Waffle House.
(My father was like this, so it's not a criticism.)

Chicago doesn’t hold a candle to St George.

I was born in Chi town
All I can say is “It’s a nice place to be from. Lift your car hood and find another hood’. Screw that!

Chicago is a great city, lots of folks on here that have never ventured more than 10 miles from mama's house have a herd mentality and jump on certain band wagons just because it seems like the cool thing to do

If you have money, I don't know why anyone young wouldn't want to live there from April through October.

The winter time there will make you hate everything

People from Bunkie, Alexandria, ascension, Livingston, and Shreveport really know Chicago. It’s mostly boomers who fall for rage bait social media posts. Certainly you can fully describe Americans third largest city with a Twitter video

Nice observation … it’s almost as if every city has nice, fun parts and real shitty parts with shitty people.

the first year I lived there they had an unusually cold and bitter winter, I said that's enough for me, come to find out, that wasn't the norm, it still drove me back south

Most big cities have a nice section and a not so nice section. The not so nice sections get all of the negative publicity.

I get that and I wouldn’t live there because of it.
But if you ask a lot of people here about Chicago, they’d say it’s a democratic run hellscape who will never figure out how to solve their problems.

Chicago is great when visiting the hot spots, especially between Memorial and Labor Days, but you ain’t going to marry it. Like a crazy fun memorable 1night stand.
Ohhhhh and for you “mUh racism” lefties, it’s one of the most, if not the most, segregated cities in the country.

Seriously: massive political spending to keep their Facebook feeds filled with negative stories about big cities like Chicago and New York.

The nice parts are amazing.
The shitty parts are equally as shitty.
Great summers, terrible winters.

unfortunately that's happening to most of our formerly great cities

South Side
Wrigleyville is super nice and I stayed there about 10 years ago, had a great time catching a ball game at Wrigley in April despite the bitter cold.

Because one week is not even close to enough to gauge reality there. My fiancée and I go there almost every year, I still CCW (deep conceal) there.

Chicago is a great city
People watch the news and shite on it without ever going.
Same with New Orleans and other places
