RIP Chicago, a once great city.

Shithole. And I've lived here most of my life.

You call that living?

I'm going pro in looting.

I was taught by the best; now it's time to put the skills to use.

I always wondered, is the correct spelling of that fine gentleman and scholar's name "Lootie" or "Looty"?

Chicago wasn't one of those cities last night. They had every available officer on the ground. They were making arrests and going into extremely bad situations while being greatly outnumbered. The fact that they were allowed to make an effort was, at least somewhat, encouraging to see.

I genuinely feel terrible for the CPD right now. What was fascinating is that during the press conference this morning, the chief of police and Lightfoot (who, to be clear, I am no fan of) basically threw the DA under the bus completely. Called what happened robbery. And that the people know they have no consequences for their actions.

Followed by Kim Foxx who just did a Q&A with the press and got absolutely slaughtered.

Not that any of this means anything, but - I can say it's a shift in tone from Lightfoot from what happened in June. I have to think that the pressure is severely mounting, given that the businesses that took the brunt of this were in areas that are very, very high tax producing neighborhoods.

It's a super fricking shame. This is a beautiful city. And leadership is letting it absolutely crumble.

Little known fact. While his father was a homeless crackhead, his mother was an oilfield wife who loved travel ball.

So it’s actually spelled Looteigh

With tourism and conventions gone for the foreseeable future, the loop and mag mile might as well be dead and buried. Many businesses will probably use this as a reason to leave. It's a shame bc under normal scenarios it really is a great city. I have no idea how they keep businesses committed longterm. I would be signing a lease out at Oakbrook tomorrow if I am one of those businesses.

A storm with 100 mph winds is approaching Chicago from the west. Any remaining riots (if they are still going on) will be over when that happens.

The general consensus among historians maintains that the correct spelling is "Lootie."

This is the true reality. On top of that, you're likely to have massive office spaces open up just due to the beating commercial real estate will take from the remote working fallout.

So, you factor that in and here's the recipe that you're encountering until "normal" returns:

- High-end businesses who won't want to reopen for fear of lack of protection
- High-end condos and residential spaces that will be open because what was once one of the safest and most desirable areas of the city, is now occupied by the fear of constant looting
- Lack of tourism and conventions, thus generating no taxable revenue
- Lack of office commuters, thus generating no foot traffic, no revenue to support the businesses within the loop

This isn't a unique situation to Chicago, no doubt. But it's absolutely going to be the catalyst that causes prices and demand to continue to increase on the North side in neighborhoods like Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Ravenswood/Lincoln Square and ultimately the suburbs.

If more things go online and more people are able to work remotely, What’s the draw of the big city?

You can visit museums and stadiums and other attractions that are there, but why live their with high housing costs, crime, being cramped with petty tyrants and Karens trying to micromanage your every move, not to mention the taxes.

Get a nice little cabin on the lake with a great internet connection and work from home.

Yeah. I can only speak to our situation and a major part of Chicago's charm, for us, was the distinct neighborhoods that still had a focus on small businesses, but in the confines of a big, easily walkable or accessible city by public transport.

It also checked all of our personal boxes of our interests for restaurants, art, breweries, independent music.

Between the pandemic, protests and looting - it's difficult to discern what will be left of all of those things.

Ironically, coming here from NOLA, we were sadly, already used to high taxes and the cost of living here is more, but not as much as one would expect. So we felt like we were trading up. I'm also one of those very odd birds that despite growing up in NOLA, I was so damn tired of the heat. I actually prefer the cold. So, it seemed like a wise decision.

I want to see what all the limousine liberal crowd in these big Democratic cities start to burn Wrigley Field, Fenway Park or Yankee Stadium. I bet they'd just stand by and let the radicals destroy them. You know it's coming.

I wonder if the looting and rioting actually reduced the number of shootings overnight?

If the crime stats (outside of the looting) were noticeably impacted, maybe the mayor should arrange some controlled looting events, especially on weekend nights in the summer. It’s like daycare or after school care for murderers. Let them safely steal merchandise purchased by the city from fabricated storefronts.
