The backstory:
Tyvion Campbell, a recent graduate of Chicago Tech Academy, has become the center of an online debate after video of her graduation walk went viral. The video shows Campbell crossing the stage, waving to the crowd, performing a split, and then appearing confused when she was not handed her diploma.

"I tried to reach for my diploma, and I didn't get it," she said. "I was confused at first. I thought they mixed up my name."

Campbell said she later learned school officials had intentionally withheld the diploma. She said she was escorted away from the ceremony and met with school administrators, including the principal.

"They told me I need to think of a way to make up for what I've done," Campbell said. "This was supposed to be a celebratory moment and I made it about myself."

The graduate says she still has not received her diploma and has been told she must find a way to address the incident before the matter can be resolved.

Campbell argues that neither students nor families were informed that celebratory dances or similar gestures were prohibited during the commencement ceremony.

"We did receive rules, but the rules had nothing to do with what you can and cannot do while you walk across the stage," she said. "There wasn't any written rule about what you can and cannot do."

Maybe she's telling the truth, but I would bet that the rules were made very clear.

Was her twerking not at a 12th grade level?

Ignorant, self-centered group.

She seems nice enough and well spoken. No idea why she decided to go full ghetto.

There is no salvaging the current polity. The only rational future for civilized, educated people—the heirs of Athens, Rome, and the Enlightenment—is to carve out a sovereign nation of our own. Somewhere on this continent, or beyond if necessary: a meritocratic redoubt where borders are real, culture is defended, and the vulgar horde is kept at bay by iron will and superior intellect. History’s enlightened remnants have done it before. We must do it now, or watch the light of the West flicker out under waves of imported barbarism. The time for polite denial is over. Secede intellectually, then physically—or perish in the ruins.

Right, I’m sure there also isn’t a rule that says you can’t strip down naked and walk across the stage on your hands either, but some things should just be inferred.

Some lessons are hard. Hope she learns from something from this one.

If you need a set of written rules to tell you that twerking on a graduation stage is not allowed, you are going to have a life full of uphill battles.

A big problem we have today for everybody. Sometimes its a good idea just to chill and not make a splash.

This is just idiotic. They didn't say "don't moon the crowd" but nobody pulled their pants down...

Could she even read the rules?

I like how the media and student involved are glossing over the fact that she simulated sex on stage.

Happens every year. Even when I graduated in 2000, you can give a wave but any dancing would be punished. Hell we didn’t get our diplomas till we turned in our cap and gown.
