This is the sort of important, hard-hitting news I have come to expect from the OT.

Hans cheated. It was pretty obvious. He obliterated Magnus, who is the best chess player of all time. He then went on to lose his next 4-5 matches to people not even on Magnus' hemisphere.

that was a joke on reddit that turned into a meme that everyone ran with
It was Eric Hansen on his chess twitch stream that quipped that.

So who was giving Hans the moves to obliterate Magnus and why wasn’t that guy/gal in the tournament?

Hans is good enough to beat Magnus in the occasional game but it isn't that he beat him it is how he beat him. There was just too high of an engine correlation with a couple that no flesh and blood player would have likely ever made.
Doesn't help he was a known and admitted cheater though never caught cheating OTB.

Why wouldn't his coach just play if he was the one telling him what to do?
Posted on 8/29/23 at 11:03 pm to jatilen
Ace Rothstein wouldn't let him get away with that.

Because the "coach" would be looking at a computer that tells him what move has the highest pct of winning at each turn... Something humans aren't capable of calculating.

Stockfish isn’t getting invited to tournaments.

The coach or whomever else was helping would have been using an engine. Which is how one catches cheaters, when a very high percentage of ones moves correlate to engine moves especially when they look odd to human players initially then there is a good chance that they are cheating. If I log onto chess.com I can use an engine and wreak havoc on players ranked much higher than me, and I will immediately be called out.
