I've heard he's fake as shite.
Someone told me a story they worked at white oak and he was there for an event or something like that and he found this old paddle outside and people started asking him about it and he was like oh this was my great grandpa's paddle for his pirogue etc. basically just made up some BS but everyone that worked at white oak knew he was full of shite lol.

Maybe he likes things to be done right the first time and doesn't want to do them a 2nd time, or maybe he is detailed-oriented and has a vision and wants it done to his vision. People so downplay someone's intensity as a negative trait!

I have met him many times. always at a fundraisers. at one specifically, as he introduced the nest speaker, he sat on the side of the stage and we spoke for quite a while. even came back to my table afterwards to talk to my mom and wife.

Who hates Folse? The man is pretty much adored around the state and his charities are pretty popular. Overall he's a great dude.

That’s called creating a good story to make your guests/customers happy and privileged to hear the story. No harm at all.
I haven’t heard anyone hate John Folse. Nobody gets to be as successful as he has without having some people not be big fans. I always find the food at their events to be very good. But that’s obviously a matter of personal taste. I have also always found him personable. With the caveat that I’ve never worked for him. Always encountered him as a guest/customer.

True story
I started trolling some food samplers at whole foods back in college asking stupid cooking questions and one girl finally said “why don’t you ask my boss?”
Old dude walks up and says I hear you have a few questions
I ask him the best way to make steaks, he tells me
I then ask him why food shows use porno music when they cook…he paused and looked at me and said “I’ll tell you what, why don’t you call in and ask that question”
I responded “call in where?”
“To my show”
“Who are you?”
At this, he got a little perturbed and said “you don’t know who I am? Really?”
“No clue bruh”
He then introduced himself
Ended up getting married at his venue

Had a book signing at Barnes & Noble a couple years ago. He was at the next table signing a new cookbook and taking all my potential customers. I sure hated him that day.

This is a swing and a miss by his PR guy.
John does have a rep for being and a-hole in his business dealings but outside of that is is alright. I do like his food.

I know someone who did business with Folse. When it was time to collect payment, Folse refused and backed out of the agreement, even though the work had been completed.
