Do you know anyone from Louisiana that works in that specific IBM facility?

This is true. The only initial contact I've had with them is through recruiters. Basically pinging me to see if I want to help them train herds of FNG's on how to be software developers.

My BIL was just hired out of LSU as a developer.

They are also creating a partnership with the computer science department i believe.

I like how my own tax dollars go towards funding these offices for a competitor.

No, of course they aren't. A couple of hundred entry level cubicle job in a little pissant building, should not be seen as some huge groundbreaking economic development move, though.

I'm happy for this.

I also long for the day when our state doesn't see something like this as the biggest deal everrrrr.

So now that it's almost complete when will River Road be fixed? It's been absolutely horrible. I assumed they were waiting on this project to be completed to fix the road.

I met a girl that works there and she said she absolutely hated it. Not sure what her position is there, but she sure didn't care for it. I don't know exactly what she hated about it.

There is also a $9.1M state commitment to build up the LSU Computer Science department.

Thank god. I wanted to go to LSU my whole life, but that department was so weak that I just had to accept that I wouldn't be going there. I'd love to see them build a good department, though.

I don't think anyone sees this as the biggest deal ever. It's a deal - one in many in this whole region including New Orleans - and a good step in the right direction. BR Area Chamber and Baton Rouge Area Foundation are most responsible for bringing this together and some of the money came from BRAF as well.

It is economic development at a good time. It's not the start or the finish. The negative responses are people with no vision and will always be negative. Bitch about traffic - won't pay a tax to fix it. Those people. No one seems to realize shite cost money.

Well that didn't cost the taxpayers anything... those block grants are from the federal government.

And this is exactly why I do not work in corporate it or for large companies like IBM any longer.

I sit in a cube and I feel like I'm slowly dying. I am no longer functional in a cube and all I want to do is sleep.

I assume this place will smell like curry in no time with the large number of Indians that will fill this place. Don't let IBM fool you, they are in-shoring indian workers.
