I’m not sure I take on its surface that she was blindsided and never given any meaningful feedback. I suspect much more likely is that her manager tried to give her constructive and positive energy around serious feedback to avoid her melting
I worked here. Cloudflare had pretty weak managers but at the same time was generally understanding that it would take about six months to start closing deals. We didn't have set territories-- everyone was scrapping for everything and there were far too many people in the segment.
The manager would have been coaching her toward it but they don't do a formal paperwork trail until typically starting six months in. They just did this to cut a lot of people loose quickly.

As it was stated, seems like they're trying to skirt around having to give her severance so they can save a few bucks.
Severance is never actually required unless detailed in the contract (and they weren't for her role). The reason so many companies were paying "severance" last year is because when you do a large enough layoff you're required to give your employees notice. Obviously they can't do that and function, so they tell employees their job stops today but they'll still get paid for X months to satisfy the government requirement for notice.

Is December a good month or bad month for sales in that industry? (not necessarily directed at you)
It's terrible. Most companies commit their annual budget early in Q4 and won't even entertain a conversation like this after Thanksgiving because 1 they don't know what their budget for next year will look like yet and 2 the people they'd have to involve along the way are in and out all month.

If it were because of her actual performance they would have had the numbers there.
They did. She closed zero contracts.

Interesting to watch.
While I agree the manager should have probably been on the call, other than that I really don’t see a problem here. Despite some of the criticism, I actually think they HR people did pretty well… she was clearly looking for a fight/argument, and they successfully diffused that
Companies make decisions to fire people. It happens.

Then that’s a shitty expectation. Another insider said that even with being established, 3 months turnaround is normal in that role. She had 4.
So basically if she didn’t get a winning relationship in her first couple of weeks in a new role, she’s a failure?

Typical, the HR guy sounded a little light in his loafers.
Because it’s a female dominated field.

No C-level exec takes HR seriously.
HR is a necessary line-item in the P&L, like office supplies and freight expenses.
All this DEI blather is just hot air, for the most part.

I’d point similarly to you as I would her. It’s performance based but in a large scale restructuring not everyone gets the ideal and optimal opportunity.
I wouldn’t expect her to be the best or the worst employee released in the experience.
Even if not far out of her ramp she is still out of it with zero sales, so it’s an easy decision in a large team cut.
That she had decided prior to the call that she was going to fight is exactly why they use a non involved grim reaper instead of someone personally invested that would want to go back and forth with her for a mass layoff situation.

In the great downturn of ‘08, they let a 21 year old me chopper all the way out to the platform before telling me that I had been laid off along with 14 other people. They had forgotten to call and tell me I had been laid off. Possibly the best thing that ever happened to me. Wish I would’ve had tiktok so I could’ve went viral instead of learning a lesson about life.

It is what it is.
Shotgun approach to finding sales people.
Don’t seem like they invest in people.
Smart people use it as a training ground to learn how to close deals. You screw up who cares and if you do well you make money. This is where you learn to make a plan and work your plan. It’s a training camp to get some sales exposure.
If they have no protected area etc you know even if you are a top producer you can find a better job. You are there for the commission money not just the base and building a resume.
Better people make commissions, and move on when they find something better.

I believe all of that, but it's super shitty for them to do layoffs and blame performance instead of just saying they are downsizing. People generally just want honest feedback. "Your performance met expectations but we are downsizing and have to let those who are not making revenue have to go first." Yknow?
That said, I'm definitely just taking this person's word at face value. None of us know jack about her or her performance.
