Taxes, taxes, and more taxes. Along with a better skilled workforce to run a corporate HQ.
Ding ding ding.
Taxes, attracting executive/upper level talent, & an affordable educated workforce.
These are the always on the top of every board/executive staff's agenda when talking strategy & growth.
If Louisiana could just figure out how to be good at 1 or 2 of these variables, we may actually be able to stop the sinking ship.

I knew this was coming but if CenturyLink leaves it will be terrible for Monroe
And the state coffers. They're by far the largest company in the state by revenue - $27 Billion last year.
But surely they won't leave for a while. I worked for an oil company headquartered in Denver while the CEO is in Salt Lake City.

In fact, the area from CTL HQ to Sterlington is booming. Very impressive growth. Louisiana needs convince them to stay. It would crush that area if they leave the same way Northwest Arkansas would turn to shite if Walmart ever moved their HQ.
IMO, the state needs to push for better airline service in Monroe, Lake Charles, and Baton Rouge and a few more non-stops to European hubs for New Orleans.
For BTR, I'd like to see new non-stops to JFK, DEN, IAD, ORD, and DTW.
For MLR, new daily service to CLT and ORD
For LCH, new daily service to ATL (which I'm shocked that it lacks), DEN, and CLT
For MSY, new international non-stops to CDG (Paris) and possibly focus city or hub status for a discount carrier like Frontier.
The above would really help make the entire state more attractive to new corporate investment. Lake Charles may need to think about moving their airport closer to I-10. It is already stomping Beaumont in many ways.

If I was the CEO I would work in Monroe but make the company fly me private anywhere I wanted 2 weekends a month and not have to work Friday said 2 weekends a month.

CTL will continue to blackmail Louisiana for money/tax breaks for a few years then jump ship.

I'm talking about the original Sonic building that is run down across the street from the now Southern Classic. This building sat dormant while the new Sonic building opened around 1999 and is still crumbling. I believe that is the corner of Banks and DeSiard. The building in question has been an eyesore on DeSiard for almost 20 years.
my bad, i just google mapped it and you're right, the NEW sonic turned into southern classic chicken. i thought it was the old one but i don't get to monroe that often these days so i didn't look closer.
it sucks..that 'original' sonic was our hangout place back in the day when OPHS was still at that location.
we met at 'sol's pipe yard' for after school knucklechecks, not sonic

It would.
Monroe seems like an ideal location for automobile manufacturing. It's not really union friendly, and there's ample space along I-20 that has relatively easy rail access.
There's already a supplier network in Jackson and Dallas with those cities both being home to massive manufacturing facilities.

no offense hulk bit don't the companies that have to deal with Walmart day the same thing?
CenturyLink is looking out for CenturyLink.
This is entirely different than Wal-mart and small mom and pop stores. CenturyLink and my employer do not operate in the same areas.
I'm talking things like large troubles taking days to resolve, turning up new interconnects taking months longer than originally scheduled, terrible customer service.
We also have interconnects with Level 3, NTT, Cox, etc.. and none of them are even close to as troublesome to work with as CenturyLink.

Wasn't that palace they built on D'Arbonne supposed to be the CEO's residence? I remember passing there while it was under construction and wondering why they were building such a big hospital in Farmerville. But they're stuck with it now, not much of a market for $10,000,000 plus estates in Farmerville.
That's Glen Post personal home.... It cost more than 10M to build it

Worldcom was based in Mississippi and never had issues with attracting top talent.
Unfortuantely I had a front row seat in watching Bernie Ebbers royally F up that telco
Monroe is obviously not holding CTL back

Infrastructure is there for sure.... but so are Louisiana politicians

Oh, it looks like it. Like I said, I thought it had to be a hospital or something due to the size.

Was coming to post this when I saw the question. Blackie built that as a personal home about 3 miles as the crow flies from his other home. The logistics of acquiring the land, access, and everything else before a foundation was even laid was in the millions. I don't think you can fully appreciate the size of it until you see the nice sized homes it dwarfs along the lakefront over there.

They gone
What we have is a war for Businesses, Cities will give everything for a Headquarters to come to their city, screwing over cities who actually need that HQ.
They give these copanies so much shite, that the city will never, ever recoup that $$ they dished out in Tifs and other tax breaks. Then, when the time comes that they can move again, they do all they can to screw the city even more or leave for more tif $$$.
It's really bad in St.Louis, as every f'in St.Louis county city will steal from another. Rather than build up region, they only care about the kickbacks they will get and how it helps their city, knowing it only make things worse when they are out of Office as Mayor.

There's a reason why DeLorean wanted to build the successor to the Delorean..the Isdera..near the Monroe airport.
What could have been if he hadn't been busted selling coke to finance his cars...
