Few people are so muscle bound that they can justify being “overweight” on the BMI index.
People several underestimate how hard it is to build muscle tissue. I can promise you Joe Blow isn't going to be muscle bound from hitting planet fitness for 45 minutes 4 times a week.
It takes years and years of consistent training to build muscle.

I bet if break into age groups it's much higher than 80% for those under 50.

think it's incorrect to say that just because someone is 6' 185lbs they are at a higher risk of health issues than someone that is 6' 170lbs.

That and (sadly) the health care teams that treated them without proper PPE last spring.
It was not the lack of PPE that was the reason why healthcare workers caught it. The vast majority of healthcare facilities never ran out of PPE. A few did but not for a long time. We did have to get creative for a little while and do things like make protective gowns out of trash bags (which actually made very effective protective gowns btw) to conserve PPE, but we always had N95s and gloves when we needed them. There was an article in the hospital medicine journal awhile back that look at healthcare workers that caught COVID. Most caught COVID from being overworked which lead to inadvertent and breaks in PPE protocol (i.e. touching their face, glasses, pens, computers etc in between removing their PPE and washing their hands), being exposed outside a healthcare facility and having a weakened immune system from fatigue and stress, and from piss poor communication from hospital administrators about when and where PPE, masks, etc was required. Doctors and most nurses were able to figure out where it was needed and not needed on our own, but other workers such as housekeeping, medical technicians, etc who did not have the training and understanding could not and the communication inside healthcare facilities pretty confusing during the first few weeks of covid.

Yep. And it takes major dedication to nutrition.

36.5 percent of adults are obese. Another 32.5 percent of American adults are overweight
So 70% of the country accounted for 80% of the cases?
Doesn't seem like that much of an increased risk, honestly. And maybe negative net, if some of the fatties were in other unrelated high risk categories like being elderly, immunosuppressed, or smoking.

Shitting on the BMI scale is hilarious when all you have to do is look at the population to know this country has a ton of lazy fat people.
Go to Target/Costco/Wal-Mart/Lowe's and see if there's even one available scooter available for use. Fat heifers' and hogs wheeling around every isle.
Like someone else mentioned earlier, Covid was the perfect opportunity to hammer home the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Educate them about diet and exercise and incentivize weight loss instead of handing out free donuts or a McDonald's big mac for everyone that got tested.

Yeah and then add in elderly criteria (70+) and you are probably at 98%. Young healthy people should have no real concern of anything serious if they catch the virus.

Kinda, but I think there have been studies that showed even if you have a large amount of muscles mass, still being over certain weights for your height puts a lot of strain on your body
no there hasnt, when body fat is accounted for you dont see issue with heavily muscled guys. I know this because i got my arse kicked in an arguement with the barbell medicine doctors last year when i was argueing the same thing as you are.
Trust me, there are no studies showing it and plenty showning other wise....they made sure to prove that to me
This is not talking abotu those that use anabolics thoguh. This is strictly speaking from a natural lifting point of view and that would make sense as the natural genetic limit for most individuals is very low.
but in general we have less than 10% of the population who lifts, maybe 2% if being generous ever reach max muscle mass. so its not like you have a huge number of candidates to choose from and i would imagine if you are dedicated and dillegent enough to reach max muscle potential as a natural, you pay pretty damn close to your health in general.

BMI threads always prove the OT is full of fatties because they go 15 pages and are full of people bitching about how it's not a good system.

Its selfish for me to not wear a mask, but not selfish for people to expect others to cater to their disgusting unhealthy habits.

This is exactly why socialized medicine would be a scam in this country. Why the frick should I pay for some fat piece of shite to get medical attention when they can’t even take care of themselves?

It is way harder to build lean muscle mass than it is to lose fat.

A couple of the more common reasons are:
1. It makes them feel bad because it shows they are overweight.
2. They have been so mentally confused/altered by the fact that their brain perceives overweight/obese as completely normal because that is all they see.
Overweight and obese have become so commonplace that individuals truly believe that a healthy weight is “anorexic” in appearance.

I mean...it is to an extent, specifically for those that are short and muscular. Not that we have any on the OT though.

80% of the US is overweight or obese

Yeah. I can drop ten pounds in a couple weeks with discipline and feel better. I cannot gain 5 pounds of muscle mass in 2 weeks. Of course I’m a hard gainer, too, and my metabolism lends itself to losing weight. But 6’2” and 195 isn’t god awful. It is just over “normal.” If I lost one pound I’d be normal. I’m also well aware I should be 185 to really be a healthy weight and just don’t give a frick.

It probably shouldn't piss me off, but this really just triggers the frick out of me.

Yeah, handing out free, unhealthy shite for getting the vaccine is hilarious. I am borderline overweight/normal weight according to BMI, but it's still hilarious the amount of fatasses that will only get the shot because they get free donuts
