To me, this thread and countless other examples show the, despite what the actual bible says, specifically the NT, some christians seem to actively want god to be a judgmental, vengeful prick.
It seems like projection to me. These types of people seem to be more judgmental than average and they want their version of god to be the same way.
It is. Most Christians want to live under the law when it applies to other people, but want grace for themselves. If you believe what the Bible says about Jesus, none of us live under OT law anymore, but under grace when you accept Jesus as savior.

There is some truth here. I’ve heard that what distinguishes most religions is which part of the Bible each ignores.
It is a little more complicated than that, each religion believes certain books of the old testament were inspired by God, and some were not.

"The deuterocanonical books (from the Greek meaning "belonging to the second canon") are books and passages considered by the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church to be canonical books of the Old Testament but which are considered non-canonical by Protestant denominations."

Compassion is telling the truth to help others avoid making the same mistake. Obviously the priest does not want others to do the same thing. Sounds like his sermon was a warning. If the sermon helps prevent someone else from taking their life, then the boys death lead to saving someone else.
Exactly right.

The grieving father even walked to the pulpit and whispered to the priest, “Father, please stop”, but LaCuesta continued on with the critical sermon.
I hope the SOB priest didn't get paid for the service

This whole reason is why I do not practice with the Catholic Church anymore. I got in a pretty heated argument with my wife when decided to baptize her catholic or not

I find your comment . . . apocryphal.

absolutely boggles my mind how people can still associate with the Catholic Church. I could understand still following the tenets of Catholicism if the religion really speaks to you, but donating money to an organization that covered up an epidemic of child rape? C'mon, use your brain.
My parish didn’t cover up child rape and we have great priests and great community. Glad you speak for all Catholics though.
That being said, what this priest did was highly inappropriate and folks have a right to be pissed. Not the time or place for that. If the parents had asked the priest to mention the nature of what happened and urged those who would harm themselves to seek help, that would be a different story. Shameful for him to have used these words.

Lol. What do you think the doctrines put forth by the men of the Catholic Church are? You think any of the bullshite doctrines from the Catholic Church were condoned by God or Jesus?
Exactly where do you folks draw the line? Your doctrine all but officially includes child rape now, and you’re still defending it.

Everyone refers to a child rape comment because it’s easy to do, I get that, but your views seem misguided when it comes to church teachings. People have their qualms about the church but most don’t take the time to truly learn what the church teaches and study the catechism before forming an opinion. Everyone just hears the MSM and thinks they know it all about Catholicism. Even cradle Catholics at 75 years old learn more about the faith all the time.

Maybe you should have went to a church where English isn't their first language.

Christ gave his Apostles the power to bind and loose. The bishops of the Catholic Church are the spiritual descendants of the Apostles themselves. In fact, just about every bishop can trace their "lineage" back to one of the original Apostles (meaning this bishop was ordained by this bishop who was ordained by this bishop who was ordained by St. Paul).
The power to bind and loose did not end with the life of the Apostles. How could it have? Christian theology was still being developed at the end of St. John's life and the books which would eventually comprise the Holy Bible weren't agreed upon until the beginning of the Fifth Century. The Bible exists because the Catholic Church brought it into existence. Which is why I think it funny that so many Protestants detest the Catholic Church yet use the book established by the Catholic Church as their sole rule of faith and doctrine.

Please point to me in the Catechism of the Catholic Church where it says child rape is not only condoned but also dogma.

That’s not because of the MSM dude, its because Catholicism is about what Catholic doctrine says Catholicism is about, instead of what the Bible tells us Christianity is about. Catholicism is certainly not alone in this evil, but church doctrine is nothing but men making themselves and their brand of religion the pathway to God and Heaven.

Catholic priests are against suicide, abortion and death penalty. Asking them to do a funeral would be like asking a MADD officer or State Trooper to do the eulogy at a drunk driving funeral and not be critical of drinking and driving. Or asking the NRA president to give a eulogy at a mass shooting victims funeral and asking for a call to end the 2nd Amendment rights. What did they expect, the Catholic Church to completely forgo all of their beliefs?

You're dealing with cranial content deficient people who are young and think it's cool to be anti-Catholic.
It's the cool thing to do. Shows you're edgy.
The one true church has had this problem for 2,018 years, it's nothing new.
It's better to ignore, and report hasty inflammatory comments, so that others aren't mentally contaminated.

Catholicism is not perfect, but, I believe it is the closest thing to what Jesus imagined for his church, as it is the oldest form of Christianity, can trace its apostolic succession to Peter, and it’s certainly older and more traditional than Hill Country Baptist Guitar Church found in the Bible Belt. Every form of Christianity broke off from Catholicism.

What do your priests have to say about their bosses at the Vatican? Do they denounce them?
Sound like your priests know who the boss is.

That is a whole lot of brain washing right there.
Any religion that tells you that any person in said religion has has the ability to be closer to god than you do is nothing but a ponzi scheme.
