Christ gave his Apostles the power to bind and loose. The bishops of the Catholic Church are the spiritual descendants of the Apostles themselves. In fact, just about every bishop can trace their "lineage" back to one of the original Apostles (meaning this bishop was ordained by this bishop who was ordained by this bishop who was ordained by St. Paul).

Got a bible reference for all that, or is it all bullshite?

Which is why I think it funny that so many Protestants detest the Catholic Church yet use the book established by the Catholic Church as their sole rule of faith and doctrine.

Even more funny is that Catholics ignore and dismiss so much of the Bible that they had put together, in favor of doctrine formulated by sinners like the current pope, because doing so portrays them and their church the only pathway to God.

Where do you get this? I'm simply saying many don't need the feces splattered within their brain (very hard to ignore once read).

What do your priests have to say about their bosses at the Vatican? Do they denounce them?

You’re being a trolling smart arse, but as a matter of fact, our priests and our bishop himself have condemned the actions of evil priests, have vocally expressed displeasure with lack of action in thwarting child abuse, and has created a letter to the Vatican himself that you can read here:

Dallas Bishop calls on Pope for change

quote:

Dallas Bishops and Priests Ask Pope to Hold Extraordinary Synod to Bring About Systemic Change

Nice try, though. I know this goes against the popular narrative that Catholics defend rapists.

The inability of the church to address the pervasive problem with indulgences is a big cause that we all recognize. After Luther’s theses it became a free for all of picking and choosing aspects of the religion that you liked and disliked and forming your own religion based off of that, which I resent.

Matthew 18:18 for starters, but I’m not your google search. I encourage you to visit catholic answers, a helpful website that explains everything about our beliefs in plain terms.

There is a time and a place for everything. That was neither the time or place that particular method. If he didn't want to do the eulogy he could have declined.

Yeah because those dudes 1700 years ago at the council of Nicea didn’t pick and choose what they liked and didn’t like to form their own religion

1700 years ago is still closer to The actual life of Jesus and his teachings than 99% of denominations so if that’s the best we can do, I will take it. But I don’t think you are correct.

It doesn’t fit your world view.

Catholicism is not perfect, but, I believe it is the closest thing to what Jesus imagined for his church

Yeah, when I see a Catholic ceremony covered in gold, multi-million dollar edifices, with all the good little Catholics treating sinners like saints, declaring each other holy, calling everyone and their dog father, selling indulgences, covering up, condoning, and perpetuating child rape, I often think that’s what Jesus imagined for his church.

A perfect example of why many people think what the Catholic Church has become is truly evil, and motif God in the least. Funny you should mention small church. I’ll bet my life the services you want to demean are a hell of a lot closer to the ones Jesus held than any Catholic service... ever.

I see this thread brought the holiier-than-thou bigots out of the woodwork. If Jesus is the one walking up to the pulpit at your church, let me know where it’s at.

The reason these “evil priests” exist is because Catholicism ignores another primary Biblical teaching, that of a marital relationship between a man and woman that has existed since Creation. Celibacy required of priests and nuns isn’t only not scriptural, but it’s unnatural and creates the biggest issue that the church faces.

You don’t understand what giving glory to God means, obviously, and are making arguments similar to a petulant child, name calling and such. Thanks for trolling, I’m done with you
