So whats the most intense storm to ever make landfall anywhere? Intensity by pressure, not wind.

The guy in the yellow rain suit in this cam who is yelling his arse off is certainly taking a risk.

According to a search...

quote:

Cyclone Winston: Made landfall in Fiji with a pressure of \(884\) mb, making it the most intense tropical cyclone to hit land on record.

Hurricane Wilma: Holds the record for the lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic basin at \(882\) mb, though it did not make landfall at its peak intensity.

Labor Day Hurricane: The strongest U.S. hurricane on record at landfall in Florida, with a pressure of \(892\) mb.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Cajun Navy is already there. Got there yesterday I believe

On both images taken at the same time there are similar anomalies roughly north of Kingston. Anyone know what they are?
Edit-I didn’t take into account updating of imagery. They no longer show. Both were generally circular and in the same location on the IR and visual. I thought maybe uplifting on an isolated and prominent peak.

Hurricane hunters extrapolated 893mb and 182 mph sustained. Not official yet. Those poor people.

very strong winds are only about 10-15 miles wide

It's essentially a tropical version of an EF-4 tornado, with a diameter of 10-15 miles and a well-defined core

Recon just measured an extrapolated 893.5 mb. Dropsonde data not yet posted for accurate 'official' reading.

The very strong winds are only about 10-15 miles wide.

Incredible. Is that the lowest pressure ever for an Atlantic hurricane?

Landfall = 892 mb in the Labor Day Hurricane

Lowest = 882 mb with Wilma but she didn’t landfall that low

893 mb is crazy

So this will be one of the strongest hurricanes at landfall ever in the Atlantic.

God protect that poor island.

Recon plane circled within eye to make sure it got lowest pressure. Look at these coordinates. They were probably floored by the reading and said wait, what was that?
