If this effects Barcelona's membership in La Liga that is bad for everyone including Real Madrid and Barcelona.
I say this as a huge Bartha hater....I'd love nothing more that to see them lose every single game and relegated, but I don't want them out of the league due to this.

I guess it depends on what you call exclusively. They raise their kids in school speaking Catalan and the general populace weave it in every day conversation. Words are completely different for things as simple as hello.

I'm just going by the statistics I've read. As far as Spain goes, I've only been to San Sebastian and Seville.

The Constitution referendum nearly succeeded 15 years ago, but voters in the large nation states refused on grounds of nationalism. Now, the refugee, financial, and migrant worker crisis have made it clear that the shared currency and free movement of peoples model of the EU cannot work alongside dozens of different immigration, entitlement, and monetary policies.
Young Europeans grew up with free movement between countries and value it greatly. They see themselves as more Basque than Spaniards, more Bavarian than German, more Scottish than Brit. The states will fracture on these lines because the shared European market for goods makes large nation states unnecessary for doing business. However, it makes a single policy for immigrants, entitlements, and financial matters all the more needed.
The United States of Europe will be an inevitability if Catalonian Indepence is successful, and a likelihood even if it fails.

Agree. It all comes down to identity and the US history is so short compared to Europe. We all started from the same point in 1776 and the furthest we have split is North vs South.

Seville was my favorite location followed closely by Granada.
Barcelona was a close 3rd and distant 4th was Madrid.

I think the regional divide used to be much more distinct, but other than political leanings, we have formed in to a glob with a few defined edges.

If you ever get the chance, go to San Sebastian. The scenery in Basque country is incredible, and the food is worth killing someone over.

I spent ten days there this Summer . I saw the Catalonian flags everywhere. I am familiar with The history of the region but I have never heard an explanation for why this is desired or necessary. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, just that I really don’t grasp everything in play here. Imma educabate myself now. I guess I better as Barcelona is on the top of Pimpette Number One’s study abroad wish list.
