Last 20 years. Click sell my car, they offered more than local dealerships (and tbh I don’t think I could get that much more retail). Did all the paperwork, and picking it up today.

Only thing is people will dump some cars with significant issues on carvana
Carvana does not inspect very well before buying them
I wouldnt buy from carvana but have sold 2 cars to them because they offered significantly more than dealers

Will they let you get it inspected before buying?

Yea, the dealerships had started to get a monopoly on buying back your old car during the trade in. They know buyers prefer to buy from them and not from the guy selling it in a parking lot. This means they can, and do, offer less money on the buy back. It's got me wondering how much more expensive it actually is to lease vs own.

Went to trade in my son's car and the local dealership offered $7k then $8k and insisted it was a good deal. Went to Car Max and sold it for $12,600.

One of the biggest reasons my next vehicle will be something like a Tesla or Rivian. I refuse to deal with dealerships anymore.
It's insane that one of the biggest purchases people make has to be met with so much frickery.

If the Louisiana legislature expanded the "trade in allowance" to extend outside of dealerships, I imagine you'd see trade in offers from dealerships go up about 25% overnight.

Tesla's buying experience is the best in the business. Schedule a test drive on the app, zero pressure tactics of any kind, purchase on the app, get 0% financing on the app, upload all delivery documents, schedule delivery date, pick up by walking in the door, show the app, they take you to the car and answer as many or as few questions as you want, drive home, or let the car drive you home.

Yeah, when my wife got her model Y earlier this year I couldn't believe it. I kept waiting for the catch.

This. Dealerships know how to use the 'trading it in reduces the amount of sales tax you will pay' scheme and thus low ball on the trade-in offer.

We just watched a car levitate, drive and fly upside down, and then do 0-60 in .8 seconds, but Carvana is the greatest automobile invention of the century?

auto vending machines are way ahead of their time

I'd sell to Carvana but I would never buy from them because as others have said, they don't do very well at inspecting them and their model is churn and burn. They buy quick then sell quick. They do give you a short window of time to return the vehicle if you want to for any reason, but you'd have to pay a mechanic lots of money to really inspect the shite out of it in that window of time and you could find yourself spending money to inspect a car that you end up returning.

Don't buy the Kia Sedona we sold to Carvana. The engine failed at about 60k miles but they gave us 5k in trade-in value anyway. We were honest with Carvana but they ain't gonna be honest with you.

I did the legal work on a land sale to carvana in San Antonio in 2014 or so. I was like, hmm, neat.
