Yep. Good for the younger generations for not drinking the corporate Kool Aid and looking out for themselves.

Yep.
People study these tech type companies and extrapolate that data to write articles like the OP.
A company I worked for had some CA offices that they redesigned to have open workspace because they were told that's the new trend based on the tech company model. They were basically kicking people out of individual offices to relocate them on long workbenches with zero personal space. Even upper level management was being thrown into the bullpen. Needless to say, it didn't go over well.

Back in the 80's I got a job at a Mardi Gras store..Just a holiday type job. I was told that the job was stocking the shelves and keeping inventory. The second day a huge truck came in and they told me that I had to unload the boxes of beads. The owner was a real SOB. It was right before lunch. I didn't come back from lunch.

Damn right.

True. Stories like thIsone are more clickbait that anything else. You can find people to justify any perspective.
My generation was put down as being anti authority and generally listless.

You constantly post anecdotes in an effort to refute data which is not how it works.

Many of them also expect companies to do more politically rather than stick to the sidelines
Damned kids. They're not obnoxious because they care about are politics. They're obnoxious because they won't shut the frick about it. I don't want to hear any of that bullshite at the office or at the table.
It is ALWAYS TRASHY as frick to bring up politics and religion in places of business, entertainment or any other environment normally free of it. Keep that plague restricted to our ideological fringes.

days of company/employee loyalty are long gone.
Once a company eliminates pensions for employees, that ended company loyalty. I can't blame anyone for not being loyal to a company, because companies are rarely loyal to their employees

We had a girl up and leave one day at lunch. Never came back. Didn't answer calls/texts/emails. She was single and her emergency contact was some boyfriend she lived with. Couldn't track him down either. Girl had a small 401k balance (~$25K) that she left. Never filled out a rollover/distribution request. Still can't find her. She also unfriended and blocked all co-workers she had on social media.

When I was working in public accounting, we were filling in as CFO for a client in transition. The guy they hired and we were helping get acclimated ripped his pants right before lunch, left and said he was going to buy another pair. Guy left his key on the HR person's desk and never came back. Wouldn't answer his cell when we tried to call.
Sounds like he split.

I ghosted my first job after 6 months in. Had a new job lined up and was planning on giving a two weeks notice. The Saturday before I planned to give a notice one of my bosses called me up bitching and needing me to urgently come in. Didn't feel like losing my Saturday. Luckily I had left my work laptop on my desk. I did lose a sweet pair of $20 earbuds though.

I actually agree with this. I tracked my employees for one calendar year. Of the employees that "ghosted" 54% of then contacted me wanting me to fill out a form for them, wanting their job back, etc. Hence why I now tell new hires that if you do not leave with a 2 weeks notice, or agreed upon notice, I take it as you firing me. My legal obligations at that point is to give you your final pay and w2. I cannot fire you and then call you into work so the courtesy will be done so in kind. If you leave on proper terms I will be happy to assist you in anything I can.

It's a lot easier to "ghost" these days, they just live with their parents and continue on to the next job. As others have mentioned, without good pension plans anymore, no sense of loyalty needed. The idea of using another job offer as leverage is nothing new to get a raise.

I don't know, I'm Gen X and most of my peers I know were a little more idealistic than these younger generations. I do think what this study shows started with Gen X, but not sure it was as widespread as it is now.
