“We’re actually seeing ‘ghosting’ [by] Gen Z,” Novoselsky told Yahoo Finance (video above). “So they just take a job and do not show up. Or they quit a job and do not let their employer know, they just don't show up and leave a badge.”

quote:

The two youngest generations in the workforce not only find it unnecessary to say goodbye before quitting. They are also bolder in salary negotiations. Nearly 3 in 5 millennials and Gen Zers say they have leveraged a potential job offer as a negotiation tactic to get a pay raise at their current job.

Good compensation is not the only thing these two generations are looking for in an employer: For them, the company’s mission and culture is a priority.

“They're helping to drive companies really highlight their mission and purpose,” Novoselsky told Yahoo Finance. “That is one of their number one criteria for joining a business.”

Millennials are more likely to place culture over salary than adults over 45 when it comes to job satisfaction, with 65 percent of millennials and 52 percent of older adults prioritizing culture, according to Glassdoor’s 2019 mission and culture survey.

Many of them also expect companies to do more politically rather than stick to the sidelines. Three-quarters of 18- to 34-year-olds expect their company to take a stand on issues like immigration, equal rights, and climate change, according to a Glassdoor survey from 2017.

This just in: low unemployment favors job seekers when it comes to salary negotiations.

I've seen this happen before at my previous job. The guy definitely wasn't Gen Z though.

He worked there for a few months and one Friday just left all of his shite on his desk and never came back. He didn't even tell anyone

I imagine this is an urban skewed survey

I’ve seen more than a few examples of employers pressing for prospective employees to do this to their current organization after a hire/offer is made

Asking for the normal 2 weeks seems to be harder and harder to do, despite the fact that the company would get pissed if you do it to them in return

frick that noise! I'm not risking my business to segment of half of the population. I don't care if you're Repub or Democrat your money is still green.

I'll continue staying in the middle with no opinion on issues.

These business trend advisors have polluted corporate culture to pander to these kids. Had a CEO that wrote a blog, which I assume is the result of the advice of one of these consulting agencies, and it was cringey as hell.

When I was working in public accounting, we were filling in as CFO for a client in transition. The guy they hired and we were helping get acclimated ripped his pants right before lunch, left and said he was going to buy another pair. Guy left his key on the HR person's desk and never came back. Wouldn't answer his cell when we tried to call.

Yuuuup.

Welcome to the age when politics is everything, and everything is politics.

Marx would be proud.

Unrealistic expectation. I would not hire such an employee. Our nation is about evenly divided on political issues so taking a stand either way potentially alienates half of the populous. The only companies that are able to get away with overt political stances are big companies like Google who have a near monopoly in their market sector.

Define when they’ll take over? I mean, if they’re 25 years old now, when would they take over at 45 or 50? By then, a 40 year old today will be in their early 60’s. Why would that matter when so close to retirement?

an employer will lay you off with no prior notice, why should employees offer the employer the courtesy of a notice?

I've never ditched a job without notice nor would I but I've always wondered why that is expected when it is rarely reciprocated.

It seems shitty, but the company can easily fire a worker with no warning. It isn't absurd that it can go both ways.

The days of company/employee loyalty are long gone.

My company doesn't have a political stance. I'm not going to let my personal political views influence the way my company does business.
