I moved to Baton Rouge recently and have not changed my car insurance to a local agent. The insurance company sent me a notice after I updated my mailing address that they were not renewing my policy in Texas. No problem, so I call the local agent and ask for a quote for the four cars (two kids in college). In Texas I paid $4300 per year. In Baton Rouge the quote for the same policy coverage was about $9000. So either I chose the wrong insurance company or you guys pay a lot for car insurance. Is this a normal rate?

There is a thread about this weekly, if not daily.

Maybe a little of both. Our auto insurance rates are insane. Thanks Gordan!

Everyone knows this.

You must've received a quote from State Farm, Progressive, or Allstate.

Ask your agent to apply the "i just moved to louisiana from texas discount".

I paid about $165/mo in Baton Rouge with State Farm (one vehicle, clean record) - when I moved to Tennessee I got better coverage (still with State Farm) for about $80/mo.

TLDR: Insurance in Louisiana is expensive as hell
