Man that was a hell of a deal you had paying 358 a month for 4 cars and two kids. Hell of a deal.

I realize that now. That is even with my daughter totaling her car a couple of years ago and causing a 3 car pile up. Also includes a brand new vehicle.

OP - do your two kids at college have a car each, or do they not? You would be getting a hefty discount if they didn't, especially if they are 100 or more miles away from your cars.

At your former residence, were you getting a claims-free discount?

At your former residence, were you getting a longevity discount?

At your former residence, were you getting multiple policy discounts for having homeowners and auto insurance with the same insurer?

These can affect your new rates if you are going with a new insurer. If you are not going with the same insurer you had previously, why not?

four cars (two kids in college). In Texas I paid $4300 per year. In Baton Rouge the quote for the same policy coverage was about $9000. So either I chose the wrong insurance company or you guys pay a lot for car insurance. Is this a normal rate?

You remember all those billboards with attorneys you saw when you drove in from Texas?

And the shitty roads?

There's your answer.

Ask John Bel Edwards and the attorneys he allows to give him thousands in donations/campaign money in order to allow attorneys to sue car insurances and people from accidents. That's why it's so high...Tbh, glad I don't live in La. anymore.

That is outrageous. I pay $225/month for 4 cars (three with comprehensive, on with just liability), and three drivers (one under 18)....

I love Louisiana, but I am glad I live in Ohio for car insurance..

ve seen a few articles recently that tries to claim that tort reform and getting the injury attorneys reigned in wouldn't result in lower insurance rates.
I think that's probably BS.

I have never heard anyone other than an actual plaintiff attorney assert that it’s not because of plaintiff attorneys and frivolous lawsuits. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad (and expensive).

Were the legislative committee members also attorneys? I know most lawmakers have a law background. That seems to be a problem. Consultants like actuaries can come up with whatever you pay them to come up with.

"You guys hate lawyers until you need to navigate this complex legal system lawyers created!"

What was the company you were coming from ? and what company was quoting??

Reason why.. Texas vs La. rates aren't that drastically different and sounds a bit off.

Did you register your car in LA yet? If so, you’ll need a victim assistance group after you do so

You gonna have to sell 2 of your cars and then trade your other 2 on used Honda Civics with 4 doors.

Shouldnt we be talking about how stupid insurance defense lawyers are? that has to be a big part of the problem right?

I mean if someone is sitting at a red light and gets tapped from behind and it turns into a multi million dollar payout then it would stand to reason the insurance company had a dumbfrick for a lawyer.

Maybe if the defense bar improved it would tamp down all these huge awards.

It seems like insurance companies don't care. State allows them to raise rates so not worth the trouble when they can still profit.
