He needs to go back there and explain to them how naive and ignorant he was to the transaction and advise them that there's no way on earth he has the ability afford this note as well as the insurance he hasn't been able to purchase.

Get on the phone with local news asap and explain to manager that abc afilitate 33/40 wants to run a story on this and have on air tomorrow.

Okay #1: I saw the pictures of the deal but did they also give him a piece of paper disclosing his credit score like any other dealer will do?

#2: In the year 2018 you can literally find APR's and MF (if leasing) online. Are people still this dumb?

i wanted to punch the salesman in the face when he couldn't talk to me in length of note and apr rate. all he wanted to talk about is what the magical monthly number would be and negotiate that.

Don’t need a DL to buy a car. Just an ID.

I grew up around (and probably was one of) plenty of young naive dumbasses who would have done this due to just flat out not knowing any better or not having someone to tell them how bad this is

How would the finance company let him leave without insurance?

I recently bought a truck from Courtesy Broussard. It was 7pm on a Thursday night. My insurance card in my old vehicle was expired. Had no proof of current insurance. They let me leave that night with vehicle in hand. All I had to do was fax in my current insurance the next morning.

happens all the time

There are a lot of sub-prime lots that do this.

There is a hole in your story. You say that he borrowed 4K for a down payment, but it's not disclosed on the RISC, just a rebate of $4000. So which is it? What is the MSRP of this vehicle? I'd have to assume there is a bank fee involved with interest rate that high. If the dealership passed on the bank fee to the customer, then I'd contact an attorney. The bank fee cannot be passed on to the customer.

All he needs is an ID, DL not required for purchase. Insurance is another thing. Chrysler Capital definitely has a proof of insurance form that should be in the deal file.

You'd be surprised. I have seen this happen to dozens of young, uneducated kids in the military who ran out an bought a car the minute they had two nickels to rub together.

I fully believe people are this dumb. I once had a coworker "self produce" a science fiction movie he wrote using all his savings and eleven different credit cards maxed out. Total CC debt was over $100K - after he blew through anything he saved/earned. He was 30ish when I met him.

Just tell him to never pay one note and let them come get the car and take the hit on his credit.

It's plausible. Neither insurance nor a DL is required to buy a vehicle in every state, but they are required to drive it. The VAST majority of places wouldn't allow something like this, but it's possible some shady place wouldn't care.

I could be wrong but it looks to me like they took the rebate, and applied it as his “down payment.”

He has those loan papers, too. It was actually 3,999.00 at 13% apr and I think 54 payments of ~98.

I just got off the phone with the dealership and they don't give a frick. He signed it, deal with it.

They are claiming he has insurance through Chrysler Financing and has proof of insurance which I have yet to find in his paperwork.
Wouldn't talk to me about anything else due to "privacy laws"

I did

No sense in even paying one payment. If your credit is so fricked up you are paying 25.63% apr then this isn't going to hurt your credit
