re: 529 milestones for Junior

We started through payroll deduction at my wife's job about 9 years ago. I think we've done the max of the allowable state deduction for both of our kids.
Daughter starts college next year. Son just a little behind that.
Daughter got a good scholarship to an in-state school that covers housing and tuition. Got into several other schools that offered something, but not nearly that much. She has a real opportunity to finish undergrad and even graduate school with zero debt.
We'll continue to contribute for the next few years, which should have us in a spot where if needed, each kid will have access to about 50k each.
We have drilled into their heads the cost of living of the lives they want to have in an effort to get them to grasp this huge advantage they have - not having student loan debt. I am absolutely not paying anything beyond the 50k each that I have saved for them. It is their responsibility to take advantage of this opportunity.

Shooooooooot. I suck too bad to appreciate the beautiful elevation changes because of all the blind shots that come with them.
Depending on what is working for me at the time, i'll either:
A: Hit 5w off the tee to have a full swing 7i-pw,
or
B: use my gap wedge and hit a good hard, low shot that rolls up
I haven't been able to hit a reliable iron in a month. So, lots of gap wedge for me.

Big time Wilson fan. I have a Dyapower driver, 3wood, 3H, and 4H. Got them brand new at ridiculously cheap prices at the beginning of 2025.
Probably the best value that exists today. Wilson obviously just doesn't have the tour presence and marketing of the big guys. Go look at mygolfspy's reviews and rankings of their stuff - they are competetive in almost every line - drivers, irons, balls.

Will definitely "kill himself" in jail tonight
Mine is the Red Tiger....can't remember exactly what his was, but certainly a little more higher end

JEEZ!
I hope I'm not overestimating my ability to carry my 7i 135!
We actually shot a par 3 side by side last week, confirmed that both were in yards, both utilizing slope. One of ours showed 148, the other 141 to the flag.

I think there'a absolutely a market and a huge benefit for a team event once or maybe twice per year. Its obviously got to be better structured and better positioned, and you really do need the top guys playing in it.
Range Finder accuracy
Posted by AUjim on 4/24/26 at 10:16 am
Anyone confirmed an accuracy issue with their range finder?
The last few times I've played with my pals, we are pretty consistenly getting 2 different readings, many times a full club length's distance. Both shooting the flag, both utilizing slope...we're talking about the 140-150 yard range, not some 500 yard par 5.

I very casually watched the big tournaments over the years and got certainly got caught up in the tension and emotion of some....but I didn't fully understand how ridiculously elite those guys are until I started playing a couple years ago. The one thing that continues to amaze me the most is how they can consistently hit greens from 200+ and then be genuinely disappointed that they hit the wrong section of that green, leaving themselves a less than optimal putt.
re: What age were you introduced to Golf? What age did you introduce your kids to Golf?

I'm in my 40's. I started playing for the first time July 2024.
Prior to that, I had gone to the driving range maybe twice in my life just because a buddy was going and played a single 9-hole round, again with a buddy in college who was looking for something to do.
I had wanted to get in for a good many years, but never had the time or really the money to do so when my kids were a bit younger. During those years, I was a bit of a 'hobby jumper,' but nothing stuck until golf. I remember flushing a single shot with a 7 iron during the first official round I played - I was completely hooked. Immediately bought a cheap set on FB marketplace and started going to the range at least once or twice a week just trying to find a swing. I am completely, 100% all in. I'm at a real enjoyable place now - pretty rare to shoot over 100, but haven't broken 90 yet. I know I'm going to get better, but not good enough yet to get too pissed about a bad shot - I just see it as a challenge to recover.
I've been taking my teenage son along every time he's willing to go, and the bug is starting to get him too. Looking forward to hopefully many more years of getting to play with him wherever he ends up in life.

Freaking love Dowd!
Hated that he was leaving Troy, but this is an acceptable transfer location!
Hope he has all the success here!

Retiring and never doing another thing ever is also a viable plan for this guy with as much money as he's made over the past few years.
PGA doesn't need him as much as he thinks they do. 'F you' money doesn't put you in control of anything other than yourself and what you decide to do or not do.

If anyone is legit interested, go listen to the Theo Vonn episode with Bryan Hubbard. Very, very interesting and informative regarding ibogaine specifically.
While I don't disagree that big-time events should provide a nearly perfect course....
The guy has become insufferable.

If someone offered me more money than I had ever made in my entire career right up front (or over a short span like 5 years), it'd really be difficult not to take them up on that. Especially with some of the likely upside/investment opportunitites presented to guys like Bryson, Rahm, etc. ESPECIALLY if I had confidence that I had a fall back plan (back to PGA) after a few years.

They are going to throw a STUPID amount of money at Dechambeau and Rahm to keep them around to hang on to the sliver of relevancy that they have. But those guys are becoming complete afterthoughts and the PGA tour doesnt need them. So many good, likable guys up and coming.
