Of course, but I can circle something on a contract and still lie about what it means. shite happens all the time with car financing.

I had a finance guy try and pull a few fast ones on me. After the 3rd or 4th one, I got up and he asked where I was going...

Told him I was leaving, but before I left, I was stopping by the salesman to tell him that you killed a deal.

He shutup and quit the antics...I was out in 5 minutes.

What a pussy.

I did sales for a while in college. Always be willing to lose the sale. Otherwise the customer dictates everything. You would sell shite if that happened.

Thankfully, I realized I had a soul. The money was great. I just couldn't deal with screwing people over.

Then I decided to be an auditor

I sold cars for 2 1/2 years. We would’ve never let someone leave the lot without a copy of the DL and proof of insurance.

This is hard to believe.

The only thing I can think of is the laws are different in AL.

How did they pull credit or plan to register?

I had already agreed to the sales price and financing structure. He was trying to get me to purchase all the other BS (extended warranties, tire coverage, GAP insurance when I had put 10% down, etc. etc.)

Nope. New car dealerships do not do yes financing at 20+%. They would have called a friend at a yes financing place and referred him there.

The dealership said(I called and talked to them) Chrysler Financing does not require a drivers license and that Chrysler was providing the insurance and they gave him a copy of that. I've been through all of the paperwork and the only thing insurance related is that he agrees to provide insurance on the vehicle or Chrysler will make him pay them for insurance.

Both of these things were the red flags that made me start asking more questions that got to the interest rate.

ETA: Because I don't think you can get insurance without a valid drivers license. I could be wrong.

The dealer doesn't give a crap if you drive it off without insurance. However, the financing company most certainly does. But whatever financing company is tossing a 25.63% rate might not care all that much.

With no DL, how did he drive it off the lot?

A lot of this story seems suspect, but there are enough shady dealers out there where there is indeed a possibility.

My wife and I discuss this all the time. I drive a 13 year old minivan. She drives a 3 year old car she bought used last summer. Friends of hers will roll up in brand new cars, 40K cars, etc. Friends that I know are living check to check and ain't got much. Then you start talking, and you realize they have always had a car note, they are paying 12 percent interest, etc etc.

I can not imagine what that must cost. Did they finance that into the purchase?

i wanted to punch the salesman in the face when he couldn't talk to me in length of note and apr rate. all he wanted to talk about is what the magical monthly number would be and negotiate that.

When my wife bought her car last year, every number the salesmen wanted to talk about was the monthly note. What do you want as your monthly, what can you afford as your monthly, how high are you willing to go on your monthly, etc. There were no prices on the stickers on any cars. All about the monthly.

Reminder. A car salesman isn't tasked with managing other humans finances. He/she just puts people in cars when they walk onto a car lot.

Correct.

However, I'm sure the local news stations would enjoy a story about how a 24 year old local black man was taken by this dealership.

If this thing gets out in public, the dealership is going to suffer. Right or wrong.

You might be more naive than the buyer. This happens hundreds of times a day in every city in America. And it certainly isn't illegal.

Hell, I wouldn't even call it unethical.

Read your paperwork. White or black. Rich or poor.

This board crucified me a few months ago because they couldn't understand that a "conditional delivery receipt" was signed to protect the dealer AND the customer.

What if I told you 36% is the state max in LA?

And probably half of used Mercedes sold at a dealer are at the rate

LA is pretty corrupt

I'd find that hard to believe unless they are targeting one demographic.
