Since meteorologist entered the social media space and started fear mongering to get attention.

Looking true.
This is why I'm a conservative forecaster. Most of the time the worst case scenario doesn't happen. But you still have to know what you're doing.
The issue these days is mets are terrified of missing something bad that happens so they fearmonger and forecast the worst case. They'd rather over-forcast and be wrong, than under-forecast, have people die, and be crucified.

? Whole threads about predicting the weather one to two days out. And it rained in LaPlace. so they missed it by what, 10 miles?

I'm curious how a mayor or meteorologist can make incorrect decisions that lead to event cancellations, costing local businesses thousands of dollars, yet face no consequences or risk of being fired. If I did that, I’d be fired.

Once the meteorologists make a prediction, wouldn't the officials, and ultimately their taxpayers be vulnerable to a lawsuit if someone attending the event suffers any kind of injury even remotely tied to weather?
Would insurers deny claims because an event went on despite forecasts?
Combine our liability laws and and a jury pool of citizens who view payouts as their own best hope for wealth and it is remarkable that anyone wants to be responsible for a public event.

Forecasting the worst case is one thing, but doing that 4,5 days and even longer is what makes it worse.

When we became a society run by lawyers……

It’s truly shocking how stupid you and people like you are.

Feel like this is just another fallout from our extremely litigious society. Uhoh, it rained but you didnt cancel school and someone died driving there, let's file a lawsuit.

It’s gotten worse over time for sure. I blame lawyers. We know damn well if an event takes place and bed weather causes injuries Gordon is going to get paid.

It has a lot more to do with liability and possible lawsuits than it does whether it’s a different type of forecasting.
But that’s pretty everything these days.
