Say your house and land are paid off.
And you plan on living there for the rest of your life.
And you plan on living there for the rest of your life.

Don't think so. However, they'll evict you and put your home up for auction.

No, you will get your house sold at a sheriff's sale, though.

They can't arrest you but they will sell your property

What's your address?
I'll take it off your hands. Just stop paying.

They will take 'your' property.
You don't really own anything - you rent it from the government.

Doesn't matter. You never truly own the land. Stop paying taxes and they'll take it from you.

Depends on the state, but if the tax lien on the home can be bought, it will go up for sale. You'll still owe the $$ regardless of who buys it. If you fail to pay it, they have a super-priority first lien on the home (even if you had a mortgage) and can file for foreclosure.
So is losing your home over a $1,200 tax bill worth it?

In MS I believe you have 3 years until the county tax sale, at which time you can pay a shitload of money in taxes + penalties, or someone else who paid it each year in your absence gets it at auction. Not sure what state you're in, though.
Eta: Cool thing about whoever paid your taxes for the past 3 years--if you decide to come clean and pay up before auction time--they get all their money back plus interest, which is usually better than the rate the local banks will pay you if that money was just sitting in a savings account.

Yes, if you don't leave when they kick you out. No such thing as private property. All property is rented from the govt. It's really a shame.

key misleading word if you don't keep paying property taxes.

Only if you don't vacate the house when it's sold at a Sheriff's tax sale for unpaid property taxes.
Yes, the jurisdiction will absolutely take legal ownership of your house and sell it.

If you try and defend your property when they come to take it due to tax liens then you will be arrested if you aren't shot dead by the steel booted nazis that are the government.

As stated, your house will go to Sheriff's sale pretty quickly. The price will be the amount of taxes owed plus fees. Starting at 100%, the bidders bid lower and lower percentages of ownership, until the political subdivision sells the least amount of your property necessary to fulfill your tax burden.
Generally, you will have 3 years to redeem your property from the purchaser. The amount will be the taxes owed, plus fees and penalties.
This only applies to Louisiana though. Like most posters, you thought that the legal fairy was gonna come down, sprinkle some fairy dust, and a miracle would let us know what laws apply to you.
I got off this rant a long time ago, but this shite eats me up.
You wouldnt start a thread that only said, "I need to know how much gap my sparkplug needs" and make us guess what you're putting the sparkplug in. You are going to ask what gap you need for a pink 2003 VW Beetle Bug.
Similarly, your free internet lawyer (who poses as a graphic designer during the day) needs to know what laws apply to you. The state will usually be sufficient.
Btw, I'll take that address too. I like 5%, plus 1% per month, on my money.

Drooling pigs line up to bid on tax delinquent properties.

Is the gap larger/smaller in pink 2003 VW beetles vs. Blue ones?
Or is this an attempt to find out if said owner is gay?
Nevermind... answered my own question, if you drive a VW beetle, you're surely gay.

I remember as a little kid in early 1970's seeing on the news and reading in newspaper about some folks around the nation getting acquainted with their local National Guard for refusing to pay taxes on properties and refusing to vacate, actually saying they were hunkering down. Seems they changed their tunes once the APC's and other tracked armored vehicles rolled up in their front and back yards.
IRS and some states simply do not play games about seizures. May see some of this in near future the way libtards are currently acting.
