Ignoring political realities, this test would be easily passed and basically just a transfer of Louisiana cash to Washington State.
Trying to turn the screws on welfare recipients via larger, more intrusive government won't work. Let's be honest here too, this is Louisiana, all you are doing by introducing another step in the process is just adding another level for some corrupt official/doctor/administrator to skim a bit for themselves

Funny they don't list all of the spending on pet projects by each legislator. You can increase taxes or cute major programs, but no option to cancel several of these local projects being funded each year by taxpayers.

Here is an article about "pet projects". You never hear anything about cutting these funds.

Legalizing marijuana would definitely solve the states budget issues though.

Well I can see the reaction already: that's discriminatory against all the poor people that can't afford a computer and internet access.
They can't afford an ID so they can vote, so of course that would be too much to ask.

It can't be this easy. If it is, everyone currently in office should not only be voted out, but shot as well.
$182.5 million surplus.
Just say no to most of the expense portion and you're good to go.

I just said 'N' to ALL spending and 'Y' to lowering income taxes and reducing corporate regulations and BOOM!
Balanced budget with a surplus.
Your move cucks in government.

How doesn't the tax credits hurt?
Damn! I thought I had it figured out and then had to go put more money back into education. Now I've only reduced the budget by 98.07%.

The movie tax credits are an incentive to attract more movies to be filmed in Louisiana right? If you take away the tax credits then there is no incentive to come here. How doesn't the tax credits hurt?

You can raise taxes all you want. We will have a perpetual budget problem until the legislature quits spending like a teenager with a new checkbook.

Where is the extra $19 million going? Is this why the State can't balance the budget.

Because you don't have to answer to your constituents who use the services you are cutting/benefit from the tax and you won't have ads run against next time election season rolls around. It's all about self preservation with these people.

Raise taxes on cigarettes, end the movie tax credits, don't fund TOPS fully and you're most of the way to a budget surplus.
I eliminated the deficit and had about a 6% surplus.
This really isn't that difficult.
You're doing it wrong
I fully funded tops. Approved a state employee and emergency personnel salary bump. Subsidized parish roads. Did not approve the penny sales tax increase. And knocked out all of the shite that actually mattered by just taxing cigarettes and refusing to refund DHH and bump state agency operating costs back up.
Like a true politician. I gutted out to 7% or so surplus, then went back and funded the feel good stuff until I hit a 1% surplus to hang onto.

Pretty awesome that the Advocate put this out there
Probably frustrating to know it isn't that difficult but will also never happen

No the idea for the movie credits was for them to establish a base in Louisiana and continue to film here. They were here strictly for the credits and got the hell out of dodge once they dried up. We shouldn't have to continue to subsidize the movie industry here, but Dardenne is bought and paid for so I imagine they'll be back soon enough.
also where's the option to shut down some of are unnecessary public universities ?
