(Bloomberg) -- California is committing to a plan that will make it the first US state to phase out gas-fueled furnaces and water heaters in homes, a move environmentalists are betting will provide a template for other states.

The Golden State will ban the sale of all new natural gas-fired space heaters and water heating appliances by 2030, under a proposal unanimously approved by the California Air Resources Board on Thursday.

We’re really hopeful that this is the beginning of a domino effect and other states will follow California’s lead,” said Leah Louis-Prescott, a senior associate at RMI , a non-profit focused on the transition to clean energy.

Since California still gets about 40% of its power from fossil fuels, the transition won’t eliminate carbon emissions. The state is targeting a carbon-free grid by 2045. The proposal does not include gas stoves, but about 50 cities and towns in California, including San Francisco, have adopted regulations that ban or discourage the use of gas-fueled stoves in new buildings.

These jackholes really do need their own separate country now. All pipelines going into CA from other states should be cut and capped.

No they won’t. They throw out these future dates and no one ever holds them accountable when the goals aren’t met.

Maybe California should be more concerned about 2022.

California needs to be split into several states, because the whole of it can’t be idiotic jacklegs like the ones in power

So ban cheap, abundant and clean natural gas for coal fueled electric? Great idea.

So add even more electrical demands to the already overtaxed grid.

Those morons can't keep their electricity grid running as it is and they want to tax it even further?

Good thinking.

so instead, have even higher electric loads statewide, and instead use the same NG to produce the electricity to run their electric ovens/ranges/water heaters/heaters if they are lucky, and more then likely now force power companies to use more coal burning plants to get enough power....

logic is lost on the illogical.....

But heat pumps use electricity and cost more to run. Your running your compressor to get heat.

The neutral gas furnace is efficient. Though the radiator steam system is best.

So…

Step 1 - Don’t have enough capacity for electricity in the state

Step 2 - Ban ICE cars in favor of electric cars

Step 3 - Ban ICE gardening equipment like leaf blowers

Step 4 - Ban natural gas furnaces and water heaters

Step 5 - ???

Step 6 - Profit!

While they are at it, let them ban stoves, refrigerators, and air conditioners too.
