Feel good legislation
Raising the minimum wage forces business to either pass along the cost or find a way to lessen the cost.
Marginal business cannot pass along the cost so they mechanize and this is where we’ll see the layoffs.
The problem is with the smaller operators that can’t mechanize. They just shut down.

You've made this pretty clear, but I do understand the embarrassment.

It’s an intended consequence. More people dependent completely on welfare so they can drum up the next revenue crises to raise taxes.
And get free money from the govt so they keep that state the bluest of blue.

Solid burn?
Goddamn, I enjoy self deprecating humor and jokes at my expense. I wouldn’t consider myself to be thin skinned in that regard. But at least be clever or funny. That was honestly the taunt I would expect a third grader to come up with. Do better.

To highlight what it says are the unintended consequences of the law
The law of Supply and Demand doesn't give a frick about intentions. It's amazing to me how ostrich-like those who push for MW increases can be when talking about how raising wages through legal mandate raises both inflation and unemployment.

agreed.
The 98% of fast food employees that still have their jobs earn 25% more money, the 2% that had their jobs cut were the worst 2% of all fast food workers. good riddance.

prices keep rising
For nonessential items like fast food, prices can only rise to a certain level before the customer refuses to pay for it. Creating a mandatory minimum wage a such a level has become a lose-lose prospect for the fast food industry.
I used to patronize a particular Subway on Ventura Blvd near Taft High in Woodland Hills. Back in 2014, before the 15./hr mandated minimum wage went into effect, spurred on by L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti, it was no problem going there and getting a sandwich, soup, chips and drink in 15 minutes flat, for less than $10! A year later, after the mandate, the Subway responded by downsizing and cutting staff size in half. Service became terrible....and prices went up!

Better than yours. No alcohol here in almost 20 years.

Good on you.
Glad the liver can regenerate. Wish brain cells could at the same rate.

is this a blunder for fast food workers?
I'd definitely agree to a 25% pay raise if it meant 2% of my coworkers would lose their jobs.
I might do it even if 10% of my coworkers would lose their jobs. They would cut the 10% least productive workers and the rest of us would get a huge salary bump.

The true minimum wage is always $0.
No. You want a downward curve on wages, that’s how it happens.
Increases in minimum wage should be tied to inflation. But adults in their late 20s and on shouldn’t be working entry level/low end fast food jobs anyways.

These FF workers never considered that this their hero pass it his minimum wage would put them out of a job. Now sone are wanting $30/hr. None of these jobs are worth it.
They’re not worth $9/hr let alone 20 or 30.
