prisoners are using the tablets to watch porn, engage in x-rated chats, and groom minors
So everything a Democrat uses them for.

If the CA politicians are doing things like this in the open, imagine the money these people are stealing for themselves. In other words, bust them for stealing. They have got to be really careless with their personal theft if they think it is OK to spend 189M in ipads. Follow the money on the ipad purchase. PROMISE YOU, you will find so much fraud from Newsome that he will be able to enjoy the ipad in jail.

I don't get this shite. Why are prisoners being given ways to access people beyond the prison they are in? Do I think prisons need to be more of some form of rehab or do something that will help prisoners become a productive member of society? Yes, but what is the deal with the idea that having access to the internet is a human right?
I assume the prisoners have to pay for the access? I know someone other than the prisoners have something to gain here right?

Some politicians brother-in-law must sell iPads.

Under Governor Gavin Newsom, California has sought to transform its massive prison system into a Nordic-style rehabilitation program.
It works if all of the prisoners are Nordic descendants.
Must be why they keep letting black people out of prison early.

Wonder how many tablets the 189mil bought? Probably a bunch of overhead in the transaction.

I don’t know how any leftist can defend that crap

Give them cheap tablets without internet and only educational apps. Allow them to access the internet in certain areas/times of day in conjunction with their lawyers to receive legal documents, download them, then shut off the internet. And have strong IT filters/firewalls on explicit content.
But they get Apple iPads and internet and watch porn and communicate with the outside world like free men. Ludicrous.

I don't care how beautiful it is, I would never live in that batshit state. Hell, I don't even want to visit.

I'm convinced. Governor Haircut would make a great president.

They use tablets here now. Big money makers and huge positive for security in the jail. *ETA: the Cali ones seem "free" and not as restricted in content
Know what else would be a “positive for security”?
Hard labor all day and they’d be very tired and ready to sleep in the evening.

Would do nothing to thwart the flow of drugs in jails/prisons, though.

Reduces/eliminates paper, primarily.
That's a main source of drugs getting into facilities. I exchange discovery with clients via their tablets as they don't want us giving them printouts of their discovery.
Now hold on just a minute. This seems like quite the reach. Of the umpteen ways that drugs are smuggled into prisons, you are saying that spending 189M to "reduce/eliminate" ONE of those ways is a "HUGE positive"? That seems ridiculous to me. In fact, I think we can reduce your phrasing of "reduce/eliminate" to just "reduce". Because there is no way that paper isn't still entering that prison. Are you trying to tell me that prisoners no longer receive regular mail, magazines, newspapers, etc.?
So in reality, you believe it is a huge positive to spend 189M to reduce ONE of the many ways that drugs are smuggled into a prison.

This is who we need to find and arrest, whether we do it legally or not… I’m sure Cali knows who she is. I want to make women like her way higher on the wanted lists because they validate what the criminal men are doing by their approval.
What I’m wondering is why the IPads don’t come with a suite of apps that can be curated and tweaked to be appropriate in a prison setting. Anyone that messages these prisoners should be known, registered, and approved. Prison isn’t supposed to be pleasant.

So, if prison is just vacation, why not put the drug using homeless fricks in prison.
