If your last name has an X it's because your ancestors were illiterate. Probably criminals shipped over to rot in the swamps.

Good many Beauchamps in Avoyelles Parish and surrounding areas. Along with Broussard, Richard, Guidry, Fontenot, etc.

Fontenot is French, but not of Acadian roots, so it’s technically not a Cajun surname. Just a French Louisiana one.

It all appears what part of South Louisiana where you are from. My wifes dad side is a Rabalais from plaucheville/cotton port area. That phone book is full of Rabalais, plauche, and dupont. Mom side from Port Barre and Washington. Heavy on guilbeau
