i don’t think so. But Best Buy serves a very specific purpose for me. I can get decent service at a good price. There is usually someone in that store to help me

Best Buy started price matching online websites for electronics after circuit city folded.

They also expanded their home appliance departments and high end kitchen and electronics selections. All of these things have helped them thrive in the current market.

It's a fact not an opinion.

That's fine, but that's not the reason they've been able to continue as a going concern.

I'm pretty sure they will know when their existence is supposed to end.

To be fair, they did have a downturn in the late 90's and early 2000's, but seem to be resurgent these days.

Seems that Best Buy and the pharmacy proliferation can be explained by the # of old(er) people out there.

Sure, Gen X, Gen Y, millenials...whatever else out there...love to shop online and get mail order drugs. But I imagine if you got some customer data from Walgreens it would tell you that the vast majority of their customers are older people who would rather grab their stuff from the counter than try to order it online.

I'm always surprised when I drive by that location on Siegen and realize it's still open.

Best Buy

Their Geek Squad folks require one to make an appointment for anything now. I had to go to their Monroe store twice this past Wednesday to drop off my dad's laptop. When I walked in at 12:30PM, I was told the next available appointment was 2:20. I ate lunch, and goofed off for a couple of hours, before returning to the store, dropping it off, and driving back to Ruston

When I picked up the machine, Monday at 1PM, I got to see an actual, j "Can I talk to the manager" moment, when a lady from Choudrant was told she needed an appointment to pick up her laptop.

They told her the next available appointment was at 3:20. She said, "I don't want to talk to anyone, just give me my computer."

"It's my computer." She continued.

"Just give it to me, or get the manager."

She was still waiting when I left.

I'll go with whoever makes superhero movies. Can't believe they're still popular.
Was hoping newer generations of kids would grow up, and quit on them.

Agreed. I feel like they are over saturated but they are definitely popular with the younger crowd. My daughter watches all of them that come out on Netflix.

Sonic

They did a hell of a turnaround with their marketing and update of their facilities.

I think the knuckle checking has helped business as well.

All the CVS Walgreens & such. I know at least from my own medical insurance they were trying to go all mail order on drugs and I figured brick & mortar drug stores would be few and far between.

Eventually, there will be 1-2 hour delivery of medicines and when that happens, you will start to see these locations close up.

Even in my small town in the middle no nowhere we have drug stores everywhere.

In small towns they also serve as de facto general stores. I can see these holding out longer as it will take longer for the delivery system to reach out there.

Best Buy seems to have figured out the "in-store pickup" think earlier than a lot of other retailers. Was huge for them. Now that other retailers are there, I'm curious to see how that affects Best Buy.

I think Best Buy also has filled the "wires and cables" niche that Radio Shack used to have.

I think GNC is successful because of their store brands that people are very loyal to.

I thought for sure Sears would be completely dead now.

I think the next to go is going to be the women's fashion stores that cater to a particular market - such as Lane Bryant, New York and Company, etc. Large retailers are starting to pay more attention to the "fat" market, the "petite" market, etc, and these specialty stores are going to struggle. My wife (no pics) used to spend upwards of 1,000 a year at Lane Bryant. She rarely shops there now because places like JC Penney and Kohls have expanded their selections.
