Can't believe there's much debate here. I guess some of the church groups want public funding to house/care for these people?

gotta side with the PD here. You can't book them and you can't issue them a summons. What do you propose they do with them?

Keep Tiger Town Beautiful facebook group

A great group. The City-Parish won’t clean things up so they are.

There already is funding to take care of these people, but they won’t take advantage of it because they are mentally ill or they want to live a life on drugs.

Do you seriously think that is an option? The city would be sued to hell and back.

Sued for? The feds do it with illegals coming across the border, why can’t a city do it?

How hard is it to not understand that this is exactly how San Francisco happens.

People in office have no back bone to stand up and say, we are gonna get ahead of this before it’s a problem

Honestly what are they supposed to do?
There aren’t enough officers to handle actual crimes
Handing out tickets to homeless people isn’t going to fix anything, sending them to jail isn’t going to fix anything
Once they infest a city they multiply & there’s nothing that can really be done

The mayor needs to get serious about this and clean up camps that are on public property when they start going up, and clean up camps on private property when the owner asks them.

They pick up a piece or two. I think it's an attempt to make it look like it was their idea.

2. Take off license plate

Round them up in bunches of 10 or so. Bring them to greyhound 30 minutes before a bus leaves for several states away.

Pay their fare. Send them away.

While I like that idea I don't see that happening

Well that's a flat out lie. Unless they disbanded their narcotics unit.

You pass these ordinances so there are laws to enforce on the books. I understand the officers logic, but the general public doesn't care that you don't want to be asked to hassle the homeless out of public areas. The more you hassle them, the less friendly they find a city and they move on. Doing nothing allows them to get comfortable and multiply.

Bring back sanitariums.

Those trash cans are provided by a volunteer group called 'Keep Tigertown Beautiful'. Our DPW can't even pick up trash much less provide a trashcan. Our city/parish govt. is pitiful.

I am not advocating for them to start putting people in jail for being homeless, but these 2 statements are absolute bullshite.
quote:

“The sheriff's office won't take non-violent offenders, so therefore they won't take them in a parish prison,” Nitchin said.

Are they going to stop arresting people for drug charges, DUI w/ no accident, warrants for missing traffic court, stealing without a weapon....
quote:

“You know they won't logically have the money to pay the fines,” Nitchin said.

Yet, I have seen background checks where they put people in jail if they fell behind on paying their fines.

Bet Murphy would harass them if they were setting up camps near his house.

They have joined the other side.

Bottom line is... The only thing that gets policed are things that can make the department or whatever area they work for MONEY. You can't feed the homeless or you'll soon have encampments all around town. Every large city now has endless overpasses full of tents and piss smelling roads. Panhandlers to the extreme. It's what their political party wants. I don't get it, but I'm sane.

I hate to tell you this, but it's getting ready to get 100x worse.

This is easy. Buy them a bus ticket to Santa Monica where all the other homeless reside.
