A high-ranking member of the Baton Rouge Police Department is on paid leave today, after getting arrested over the weekend.

Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto has confirmed Lt. Charles Eddleman was arrested for aggravated second degree battery on Sunday. It stemmed from a bar fight that sent one patron to the hospital.

We've learned Eddleman was recently promoted to the position of lieutenant with Baton Rouge Police. He was off duty at the time of the incident.

and civil service employees wonder why many can't stand them.

They want the same pay, yet they are rarely fired, regardless of incompetence, and have a defined benefits plan/pension.

in the "real world", you don't get paid leave for something like this... you get fired.

The only thing worse than a drunk cop is two drunk cops.

So this dude used a weapon of some sort to disfigure another man's face? I guess he could've just broken a bone or knocked him unconcsious with a weapon as well.

A beer bottle is something most bars have in them. Could have been that.

Well as usual, this article is very lacking.

It pretty much explains about zero of the what or why anything happened.

He could have hit a guy with a bottle for no reason or some guy touched his wife's butt and he clobbered the guy.

Too vague at this point to pass judgement

This is true, but requirement to possess a job is not part of American law.
Companies will always fire someone for getting arrested like this. Companies are not required to keep any employee on staff, much less being required to pay them.
