I would much prefer a smoke free place, but it is government overreach to mandate it by law.
Let the free market figure this stuff out. Smoke free is a solid business decision and would naturally happen at 99% of establishments.

Bars in Houston are awesome without smoke. No more smelling like an ashtray after you've puked on yourself

I don't know about a "lot" but there are definitely some that have done so voluntarily.

I am all for smoke free establishments. I supported it when they made restaurants go smoke free. But when I am drinking and gambling I like to smoke a cigarette every once in a while. Smoke free has no place in bars and casino's. These are places that we go to exercise our vices and smoking is one of them.

Alcohol impairment is an issue too. We should have an ordinance that requires bars to have a punchcard for customers. 1 punch per drink and after 3 you're cut off until the next day.
I mean, it's for everybody's benefit.

I wouldn't exactly call a local ordinance "big government," but agree with you on infrastructure. I wonder if SWB has driven down Government Street lately, and the only cure for EBR schools are ISDs which will never happen. Schools is some of the wealthiest parts of town were below average in the latest DOE rankings; that's not acceptable.

WTF are you talking about? I didn't say that I spearheaded the effort to make restaurants smoke free. I just said that I supported it. Meaning that I wasn't against it. But a bar or casino is a different story.
