Sear's Christmas catalog was awesome

That Wishbook was the tits.

We have sort of recreated that with the kids, particularly at the grandparents house. When the sale papers start coming in, the kids will circle stuff and save those papers. Not the same experience but close enough.

It's not the 1940's anymore. These places deserve to die for their lack of evolving with the times.

What the he'll do you mean? Obviously an online presence would do great, but how do you test a toy look at a toy, bike at Amazon. No it pushes everyone into Walmart and target to test run compare and if cheaper buy in store. It's strategic lower prices shut down competition and the jack them up again

If families go out less, then they travel less, burn less gas, create less globalwarming/climate change ect......
So.....in libtard language, closing toys-r-us just saved the planet.

Toys R Us closure could add stress to families,

Going to Toys R Us with 3 young kids is one of the most stressful situations I've ever experienced in my life. I already feel calmer just knowing that they are closing.

Yes and no. Toys R Us was an entire store of toys. Walmart and Target just have toy sections. There is a lot more variety at Toys R Us plus my son loves going.

One thing I appreciate about Toys R Us are the Lego events they occasionsly have on Saturday mornings. I enjoy taking my son to these events. They give them Lego sets free and let them build them in the store. All the kids are excited and having a great time. Complete opposite of a trip to Walmart or Target.

agree.. as a kid there was nothing like christmas time walking in toys r us dreaming of what santa would bring me. Or birthday time, as i walked through the isles picking up every toy and wanting it. It is so much more fun to look at it on a pc screen though, smh.

Have an area where kids can play with Lego. Have a model railroad layout operating that attracts kids (and they still do). The Toys-R-Us warehouse format wasn't that great for seeing what was in stock.

I would take the kids to a place in Dallas that had an operating train layout, a place to play with Playmobil and Lego, etc.

The store did well until the owner had pancreatic cancer.

The only thing that kind of sucks about stores like Toys R Us and Borders closing is that I no longer have a showroom to use when I buy my stuff off Amazon.

Which is odd since you can literally buy it at the store and get it for the same price on Amazon...

This is going to make gift shopping a pain in the arse for me. I'm the type who usually waits until the last minute and picks up a gift on the way to the party. Would usually just go to Toysrus with a general idea of the kind of stuff the kid was into and look around to find something cool that I thought they'd like. I hate shopping online, especially if I don't know the exact item I'm looking for.

Lol, article writer clearly doesn't have kids. Toy shopping is absolutely miserable 90% of the time with kids. The other 10% is a blast, but almost everytime I go it inevitably turns into a battle because they want more than what they have money for or are allowed to get.

Did toys r us price match?

Best Buy went through this recently but survived, now the one by me stays busy.

I have a feeling this was simply very bad Business by Toys R Us as much as anything.

Walmart and Target’s toy selection is abismall. I would go to Toys R Us before Christmas to shop for my cousins’ kids because they had a wide selection and I didn’t have to settle on anything.

I'd much rather buy shite on the internet than spend an hour in traffic, and another hour wading through a sea of people just to buy a damn pair of Levi's

THIS. frick BR traffic to go buy my 3yr old a bag of duplo blocks. We'll go to a toy store at Christmas. But I'm typing this on the shitter at work, and when I'm done, I'll use the Amazon app to buy what I need for her Easter basket next week. It will be here Monday. Next time I have the time to sit in traffic n go a store? Sunday. That's why T-R-U is closing.

I was a manager at BBY while in college when we did two massive re-org and folks on a Sunday went to work and found locked doors.

They sold their souls to stay alive and I went against SOP a LOT to drive sales...

Seems Toys R US wouldn't do it.

They have a lot of the same shite. Toys R Us also had a 20% higher price than anywhere else, and you had to try and get everything price matched.

Just a bunch of shitty business decisions all around resulted in their own demise

I went to Toys R Us a lot and never realized they price matched until they announced they were closing last week. Their prices were pretty high and if others are like me they didn't realize they price matched.

Toys R Us was heading in the right direction in the early 2000's. They were actually partners with Amazon. They ended up ending their partnership because TRU couldn't keep up with Amazon's demand and so Amazon went to other suppliers for their merchandise.

I remember going to KB Toys in Oakwood Mall quite a bit.

Last time I was in Oakwood, looked like culcha claimed it.
