I remember going to KB Toys in Oakwood Mall quite a bit.

Last time I was in Oakwood, looked like culcha claimed it.

I don't think Oakwood is going to make it long term. Not enough good stores came back after they got ransacked by Katrina looters that set the mall on fire. Now its mostly urban wear and shoe stores. Mall is dying a slow death.

The times are changing and it is based on what the consumer wants. Based on the fact these stores are closing tells me the consumer doesn’t want to walk into that store.

I think people like having both options available and are not necessarily happy that the stores are closing.

No, I was saying they had to reach out to investors because they were failing. Their last LBO was the dagger to the heart but they've been struggling for years. They would have likely filed bankrupcy sooner if not for the LBO.

So sure the LBO finalized their demise. But I'm simply saying it was their business model that failed primarily.

Can't speak for all BBY stores, but at ours our MOD (Manager On Duty) was always at the front of the store for overrides and customer satisfaction. That was part of the new SOP when the company finished the second re-org.

Exactly. It's been years, but I remember the last time we were in TRU the staff was no where to be seen. We went because my wife did a baby registry there, and it was a PITA finding someone to help us.

Best Buy ship to store is easy, TRU far from it.

I didn’t have ToysRUs when I was a kid. I had TG&Y, Woolworth’s and Howard Brothers Discount.

Lost them 40 years ago and I do miss them.

That's bullshite. Sure times have changed, technology has evolved. But a child's amazement in a toy store has never changed.

Bingo, people so often fail to appreciate the simpler things in life these days, just prop the kiddos up in front of the TV and let Cartoon Network raise them.

The parents have much more time to facebook that way.

Had my rehearsal dinner at that Cannon's at Oakwood. Was a nice place back then. This was 6 years before Katrina.

Cannon's was fantastic. Then it changed to Semolinas I believe.

Yep. And now New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood opened in that spot. Been there twice during lunch and its always empty, while the stand-alone location on Manhattan is usually pretty busy.

Best Buy unconditionally price matches amazon, Walmart and target for any amount off long as the product is shipped/sold by them. That’s how they are remaining in the game.

Now people would rather take their pets to a pet store than to take their kids to a toy store. I am not sure if that says more about parents these days or kids these days. Both???

I don't have kids (yet), but I love bringing my dog to PetsMart and letting him roam the aisles and grab something to buy

Shame I won't be able to do that with my kid at a big ole ToysRUs. I loved doing that with my parents.

At least they still have a tiny toy aisle in most grocery stores. My dad always let me get something when I went grocery shopping with him.

And they still have Target toy aisles and WalMart for nastier people. So you can still do this.

We also price matched newegg and crutchfield.

I also routinely discounted Macs.

I actually put one of Apples 3rd party stores out of business

Was in the BR/Bluebonnet Best Buy Last Sunday for the first time in a few years. It's such a nice place to see still doing well. I still have a Best Buy account from when I bought my first DSLR(I lost it at the Saints game in Lambeau in 2011. Left on bar table at Stadium View Grill ).

I'll probably get a TV and new headphones from there soon.

Honestly kinda glad I'll never set foot in that place again. While we were able to find some unique gifts I just can't get past how the BR one always looks like a shite met a tornado inside of that place.. It a million x's worse at Christmas as well.

I don't mind if all big box stores close.

An economy based on retail sales of shite people really don't need is not a good economy.

It's also because stores like Toys R Us (and Barnes and Nobles) allow trashy families to play with (or read) the merchandise they are selling with absolutely no guarantee in place they will buy something.

Sad to say I know of people who go to these stores with their kids, spends a few hours there reading or playing, and then will maybe (and not always) buy a book or toy that costs $3-$5. No wonder these stores are dying.

This is also another reason why I prefer to shop online for literally everything.
