You don't think that's water in the bottom of the slide? That's what I assumed. Just a little bit of blood can make a pool of water look bad.

The dark color you see are black rubber pads designed to help slow the thing down. So it's not like that's huge pools of blood.

Wonder hw he died because there are safety cages the entire ride.

When the ride hit the hill it launched the raft with the boy on it into the net prob snapped his neck if he hit the net wrong.

He was well below the age and height requirements for the ride. Was that requirement waived because of his father?

Either way, he shouldn't have been on it. If he fell out because he was too small, the ride attendants, and therefore the park, are responsible for what happened.

Yes it's water. But a lot of water with a lot of blood. So much blood that you can't see the bottom.

And the poor boy was not transported. He was either decapitated or the neck and facial injuries so severe that it was obvious to everyone he was gone and transport pointless.

Believe me. That park wanted him out of there if at all possible.

How much longer was this park gonna stay open for the year?

Wouldn't be surprised if the park was trying to hold out to the end of the season before replacing those velcro straps.

Seems like buying more rafts and adding labor to make sure rafts with old Velcro were rotating out would have been reasonable but when tort reform caps a human life at $250k you don't have a whole lot to lose.

It's obvious someone was going to die on it but they did the math and getting hit with max law suits was worth the increased revenue this beast of a slide generates.

If x nets you $1m but has a 100% chance of losing a life then so long as that life costs less than $1m then it's a good business move.

The ride will be less popular now so they will move on.

any truth to the reports that the representative insisted his underage and under sized kid get on the ride?

Page or two back was a Reddit quote about how there is no age requirement, only height and weight. After watching the videos, not sure how something like this wasn't obvious.

I'm kind of bummed this ride wasn't open when I was last in the area and I really wanted to ride it. I doubt it reopend now. Too much bad press.

Hope it doesn't hurt Schlitterbahn too much, they have a good thing going. Wish we had a S-bahn instead of Blue Bayou.

there are no age requirements for the ride. I just spent a day at Schiltterbahn in Galveston and there were no age requirements on anything, just height on the bigger rides and weight on a couple of their uphill coasters

As far as a business decision to make for maintenance, I'm willing to bet it has gone like this:
Park gets X dollars in revenues through ticket sales, etc. Company sets up operating budget. Maintenance costs and repairs to rides/rafts has a budget. Perhaps they've met that budget for the yer already. Maybe they had to spend an extra $5000 to replace some broken pumps, etc. and now they'd like to put off replacing some velcro straps that they figured would last another month or so.
I doubt that 250K limit had any real bearing on the decisions.

This. It only takes 5-6 drops of red food coloring to turn a bathtub super red. Doesn't take much at all in water.

The yahoo article this morning said he lost his trunks and two non related women that were riding with him had facial injuries.

Didn't really give any specifics on besides neck injury.

I had watched the travel channel show that was about this ride while they were building it.

The thing was super dangerous back then. Rafts were flying off the thing over and over. I get they used the net etc to make it safer I guess but there was no way I would have ever gotten on that thing after watching the special.

It was clearly dangerous and now ugh how sad and horrible for all involved

I posted earlier that there was a 14 year old age limit. I got my info from the Kansas City Star which later revised their article and removed the age limit.

They literally tore down the bottom half and redesigned it due to safety issues. Cost them 1 million to do it. Going to cost them more than that now.

According to a report from the KC newspaper, the 10 and 12 year old boys were exploring the park on their own while the parents were with the younger kids. Their were 2 other women in the raft unrelated when the accident occurred. Being that it was 2 women and a 10 year old, I'm betting on they were underweight and it threw the ride dynamics off
