KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A 12-year-old boy has died on a Kansas water slide billed as the world's largest.
Police spokesman Officer Cameron Morgan says the boy died Sunday at the Schlitterbahn Water Park.
Winter Prosapio, spokesperson for Schlitterbahn, said the boy died on the Verrückt water slide, which is promoted as the world's tallest water slide at 168 feet, 7 inches. Speeds down the ride can reach 70 mph.

Wonder hw he died because there are safety cages the entire ride.

I'm a grown man and I wouldn't get near that thing.

Wife and I visited that Schlitterbahn the week before that slide opened. That thing did NOT look safe.

Just went to schlitterbahn in NB. Same one I grew up going to and as a 35 year old father doing this with my kids, I wonder how there haven't been more deaths before now.
As a kid, never even though twice about it going there. Now, I'm terrified on a few of them.

Betting that's exactly what happened.

Pussies. I'd do it twice within the hour should the lines permit.
Bunch of morties.

The KCK Schlitterbahn isn't very much like the NB one. I was unimpressed.
Also didn't help that we'd just been at Disney world the week before

Yeah. The SPI one looked pathetic as well.
Their expansions have not been up to par.

We used to jump off the top of the Sonic Chute at Waterland in Houma, and not make contact with the slide until damn near the bottom. Don't know how we all lived

The safety cages themselves could be a problem if rider lifts off slide enough to actually hit the cage. If this happens, I'd worry about rider spinning or turning in a way to land back on slide the wrong way, like maybe hitting head hard.
This is about an older tallest slide:

With this quote "If it becomes too steep too quickly, then a person or object of any sort would no longer remain on the slide, and would likely become airborne."
This was obviously a thought out risk with the safety cages.
