Boat Living - Dock Life Slip Life House Boat Anyone currently doing this?

Has anyone on the OT been doing a lifestyle where they live on a boat in a slip, along the bayou, etc. Anywhere?
How do you do it?
Cant really find anywhere on how to get started.

There used to be at least a handful of people doing this in Forsythe Park in Monroe. Always seemed intriguing to me. There arent docks anymore there, idk if anyone actually live in the Boats on the WM side.

There was a person who used to do it in New Iberia off of Bouligny Plaza years ago, but Scruffy hasn’t seen anyone there in years.

I don't know if I could do the boat full time, but I could do one of those two story boat houses with the boat slip on the first floor.

I use to live on a houseboat October through March. Hunting season. Then about 50% of my time at the barrier islands during summer.

I know lots of people who do this in the Florida Keys. Having a slip is much higher end than being tied up to a mooring. The slip costs more than the boat in many cases.
People do it because it’s cheap. In Monroe County the govt pays for the boats to be pumped out because they don’t trust people not to through it in the water if it wasn’t a free service. A dingy pass is dependent upon participation of being pumped out. They also make sure boats are operable. Derelict boats are a huge problem. In general the live aboard are viewed as lower class.

A few years out of college I was at a work dinner, and an older guy from our client told me that he went to The U and lived in a cabin cruiser while he was in school.

A couple folks lived on their sailboats in the bayou boat slip area of ponchtatrain yatch club. Old Mandeville. Not much out there but a taste freeze. Late 70's early eighties.

Lived on a houseboat for 6 months while our house was being built. Absolutely loved it. We were in a marina with about a dozen other nice houseboat around us. Really made me wish we had built a really nice floating camp and stayed there

I know a guy who was a schoolteacher than lived on a sailboat in the yacht harbor out at West End NOLA. It was a fairly big sailboat, I guess around forty feet or so. The inside cabin was really nice, but the exterior of the boat was kind of old looking. He used it as a place to live, it never left the dock.
And then Katrina happened and the boat got destroyed. He bought a house Uptown.

Buddy of mine did it for a few months after his divorce. The words cold, damp amd mildew were frequently mentioned.

Lived on my Hatteras for 6 months until I bought my house when I moved to Florida. We were in a marina and biggest issue for me was having storage and a place to work on my projects. Lived on it for about 3 months after Helene flooded me out. It is parked behind my house so it was very convenient to be able to work on the house and go sleep on the boat. Sort of like having an RV in your yard while you build a house.

There is a reservoir here in central, Mississippi that has a couple of marinas on it…I see some people living in boats in the marinas.
Would be great during the summer, if you could keep the snakes out. Would probably suck arse during the winter, though,
