will this become the second abandoned water park along I-10 in Louisiana? The other one being the abandoned water park between Lafayette and Lake Charles...

We went on a weekday last year and had a good time. It's a perfect place for 8-12 year olds.

How's the food?

Well considering the pool was in operation in 1984 (when it was Fantasy Water Park)

Actually looked much better back then:

Not a waterpark, but 6 Flags outside of NOLA is abandoned as well. Currently being demolished, but several structures (including a ferris wheel) are still in plain sight of I-10.

They had a lot of issues with staffing in the previous years. Shitty pay and jobs teenagers are too cool for now

Did they run out of money? They used to refresh the park with new slides…. Run ads and coupons.

It just got stale. The snake slide was sketchy as frick too

The beginning of the end was 10 years ago. COVID was the final nail.

The owners are cheap as frick.

They're also pretty dirty with that promise of the bonus if you work the entire summer and then find a way to get rid of you before the end of the summer and finish it off with people that started in the middle of it. At least that was pretty common occurrence when I was in HS. There are more ways for HS students to make money these days than work in shitty conditions in the Louisiana heat for dirt money so not surprising to hear.

I brought my nephews there about 10 years ago and noticed a lot of the water rides were in need of some TLC (new paint, tubes that weren't patched, food/drink booths actually in operation, etc). I'm sure a place like that can make some money during the summer, but you have to keep reinvesting back into it to maintain and renovate in order to keep it attractive enough to bring people back.

Residents off old Perkins are spared the traffic nightmare of them blocking the roads with off duty cops to let people in and out

This. I've lived off Old Perkins for the last fifteen years. The total gridlock at the Highland/Old Perkins intersection during rush hour in the summer caused by Blue Bayou traffic makes me want to smash a bottle over my own head.

It's my understanding that the owners refused to lift a finger to work with EBR to try and alleviate the problem, and EBR wasn't interested in pushing the issue. If some other company comes in and buys it, I sure hope they do some serious upgrades to the roads and traffic signals...

...and maybe get back to using the enormous parking lot across Highland next to Home Depot.

This. Probably aren’t good at running the business side of things.
I would think the cost of insurance and maintenance has sky rocketed the past five years, so they started losing money.
