Same. I turned 16 in August and started my junior year. Those songs remind me of cool crisp fall days and practicing football with the whole world in front of me. At the time I didn't realize how good I had it. Great musical year.

Of all the "big name acts" in the list of the top 23 i can see, none of these songs would be considered their best song, with the exception of maybe Sweet Child of Mine.

One more thing. I know Sammy turned VH into gay power ballad band from what they were with Dave, but they were still great.

A lot of that was driven by MTV, especially the hard rock stuff. Appetite for Destruction was released in 1987 but didn't hit until 1988 when the Sweet Child and Paradise City videos came out on MTV. Def Leppard Hysteria had a similar trajectory, released in 87 but having huge impacts in 88 with additional videos being released. Combine that with Bon Jovi New Jersey and Poison Open Up and Say Ahh, 1988 was monster year.
