Seriously, what is the end game with the current approach? The virus is going to still be around next month and the next. We need to transition back to normal taking what reasonable precautions that we can. This thing is just going to have to burn through us until we achieve a level of herd immunity.

Do you really want to know, or do you just want to argue?

What happens next is we lower the reproductive rate to about 0.25, and keep it there until we have almost no new cases in the area in question. This will probably take about three to six weeks in New Orleans. We could do it faster if we were more disciplined. Then we go back to near normalcy - restaurants open, folks at work, no big gatherings.

In this mode, we experiment with social distancing to get the amount that keeps the reproductive rate near 1.0. In this way we keep a steady caseload coming into our hospitals. The better we are at tracking and quarantining the less social distancing we’ll have to do. We keep doing this until we have a vaccine. Then we party!

What about Canada, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Greece, France, Germany and every other industrialized country on this fricking planet? Are they being "held hostage" by the media as well?

Are all these countries willing to tank their own fricking economies because the American media says they should? Are you thinking this dumb shite through?

Yes. Media whips up people driven by their emotions, these people then demand the government "do something". So the government does.

It's not a uniquely american thing. Although we're probably the worst of any country in terms of letting our emotions drive our decisions.

Actually it kinda does.

No it doesn’t. The fatality rate in the USA will end up being below 0.67%. 1.5% is a gross exaggeration, and 0.0% of scientists think the number is greater than 1.0%.

You just outted yourself as a moron.

I said half of the total cases and you equated that to half of the mortality rate. You may want to edit that post to preserve your online dignity.

Uhh, so he took your assumption that half of the total cases are being reported and the cut the mortality rate in half. Explain to me how his math is wrong, otherwise you are the one who needs to edit to preserve your dignity. Or rewrite your original assertion to clarify your point.

Do any of you who start these threads talk to anyone on the front lines? I

I have. The head surgeon of the largest hospital in my community. They’ve shut down the hospital in anticipation of the rush of virus patients and it hasn’t happened. And from the numbers it doesn’t look like they will get to a point where demand exceeds supply of beds/vents, etc.

In the meantime, hospital losing money, laying off people, and other patients with non covid treatment not getting it. Ridiculous.

I’m not saying it’s not different in your community and I’m sure it’s traumatic to see people suffer from the virus, but a global shutdown with no specific parameters to re-open is not the answer.

This virus isn't comparable to the black plague. Even if we had taken no action, it never would have had any chance of even killing 1% of the population of any nation.

Hmmm. And what would happen to the health care system if nothing was done?

Only 3 out of every 100,000 Americans has died of this virus

over a FIVE WEEK period.

I know NYC, NOLA, and a few other hotspots are worse, but < 1 out of every 100,000 per week across the entire USA has died of this

That's only 1 in a huge football stadium like Tiger Stadium or JerryWorld. Think about that.

If you guys want to freak out. Have at it. I think a million people had this thing worldwide and didn’t think anything of it.

Also, people are not factoring-in that some people are dying of normal flu. They act as if every death is now Covid. The government announcing that they will pay 100% of all Corp related expenses are going to pump up the rates of fatalities being attributed to Covid.

This thing is a highly contagious nothing burger. If the world wasn’t connected and the media wasn’t a fear factory, everyone but be going along fine and saying “careful, the flu is going around”.

This thing is far less than 1% true fatality rate.

I often wonder does it physically hurt to be as stupid as you are? Do you have seizures when you try to solve the equation 1+2=X ?

Same thing going on in Mobile, AL. Nurses hours are getting cut to nothing. My wife works in the cancer side of Providence Hospital. That’s the money maker bread and butter side of that hospital’s profitability. I’m hearing similar stuff all across America including rural areas. 10 million people have filed for unemployment. I believe that’s the last figure I’ve heard. I’d rather 100,000 people die than to starve people to death. I feel bad for our president. Forget which side a person votes he’s in a no win situation because the media is going to tear him up no matter what.

It just goes to show you how easily the American people can be controlled by the news media. They will bow down to what they’re told to bow down to.

So many normal, intelligent, and good people are living in fear right now because of the nonstop fear mongering on television. It’s unbelievable.

I agree. It’s akin to the closing of schools because of a fricking thunderstorm. You never heard of that shite ten years ago. Now it happens three to four times a year. Get ready, this is going to be the new norm. This will happen every five to ten years. Bunch of pussies.

Meh... felt that way at first. I'm seeing a lot of death, and our ICU is stretched beyond capacity and we don't have enough vent-trained nurses. shite is a fiasco.

He’s going to just listen to the experts, claim he saved millions of lives, and indirectly profit off the pork laden stimulus bill through his private equity buddies heading up the task force.

In the meantime main st and the middle class will get crushed.

It’s time for the common man to realize that regardless of what side of the aisle you sit on, you are getting f*cked.
