Not sure if it was in the article or someone posted after but this was in a dangerous part of Bham after a game and I am sure the police department doesn't have the resources to properly provide services if needed.

He tells the cops repeatedly, "Get out of my space." Even the dumbest of the dumbasses know that isn't going to turn out well. He's supposed to set an example for the kids under his leadership and he will. At a minimum I think he'll catch a suspension.

Reports say this was a dangerous area of Birmingham and this was a contentious rivalry. The officers wanted to clear everyone and get them all to their vehicles so there were no issues.

Maybe they can inform us why it is illegal for a high school band to play after the game is over.

I am assuming trespassing.

Does that map to some actual law, or just a police department policy (very dangerous precedent in today’s day and age ).
It's a Birmingham City Schools policy. The Band Director's employer. The employer that commended the security officer for trying to keep the situation cool in a statement they put out. Band director broke a safety protocol by his employer. Owner of the property asked him to leave, 18 minutes later he was still there, so he was arrested to be removed, he fights back at officer trying to remove him and gets tazed. FAFO.

Of all things, bands and music (even in a somewhat competitive scenario like 5th quarter) are one of those things that should bring people together.
It doesn't though and has lead to shootings and fights, which is why the School District has a hardline stance. Failure to comply with those protocols and putting 13-18 yr olds and any bystanders in harms way is asinine. Before you try and bring race into this, the officers were black in the video as are all but one of the 10 board members who made this protocol mandatory for all Birmingham City schools while at Birmingham City Schools events on Birmingham City Schools property.

Did you watch the video? The band director was completely out of line and resisted arrest. He deserves just as much blame, if not more, than the cops in this instance

For what crime was he lawfully arrested on? Cops are far to quick to cite "resisting arrest" for telling a cop to frick off when he's got not PC to arrest. Resisting is the new "pissing off the police"

Trespassing was what he was doing after he was asked to leave 18 minutes earlier. He got charged for resisting arrest once he escalated the situation unnecessarily

Don’t be so dense. Nobody said that specific activity was illegal. The LEOs were hired by the city and/or school for crowd control and/or security. The LEOs determined that it was in the best interest of everyone to clear everyone out after the game. The band director was playing after the scheduled event was over and was asked by LEOs to stop so everyone would leave. He disobeyed this lawful order by LEOs, this got charged for that. The end.

While it may not be illegal if the school/s are renting the field you only have that field for a certain number of hours. I know here if you go over you are charged for it and they (people working at the stadium) may not have the man power to work extra hours.

I have seen lights turned off on two schools who decided to stay on the field for 45 minute after the game was over.

Good job, society.

Society?

That came later.

Cops dont like those of their own that break ranks and report on each other. The incentive to be a shitbird or to ignore the shite birds has been there for a very long time.

Our society is completely fricked up

ETA: Not making a statement on the specific person, just that shite has gotten so bad that a marching band can't play music after a football game because someone might get shot.

IKR. Nothing brings a community together quite like t-shirts with a teenagers face on it and a life gone too early because someone got disrespected at a 5th quarter. How dare the adults in the room make protocols to try and prevent that from happening, and how dare they taze and arrest someone putting kids in harm's way who was aggressive and argumentative for 18 minutes.

Well they probably shouldn't have held the game then.

They probably had police for the actual game and not for activities after the game.

Few things:

I know the band director indirectly and have been around him before. He’s an interesting person to say the least. He also was removed from a previous school for angry outbursts and breaking furniture during class while berating the students. While I personally think coaches and directors losing their cool can sometimes be motivating, I can see how others would be fearful to have their kids around someone like that. And if he responded angrily and out of control towards police, I would expect there to be a vigilant response.

The band was playing for 18 minutes at night in one of the most dangerous parts of BHam after a rivalry football game. Police needed to clear the area for safety reasons. Just abide and tell your band it’s time to go home.

Wow, thanks for the context.
