re: Best Watch Between $1000 - $1500

I really like Tudors but will never get one because I would have to continually tell people it's not a Rolex.

The BB '58 is alot of watch for the buck...and would fit my wrist better than the 41mm BBN.

I’ve been looking at Speedys for a while, haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but i was wondering: Is there any obvious advantage to buying the 3570 vs the 005 model? Both have the Hesalite and no distinguishable differences i can find, but the 3570 tends to be a little pricier.

Actually, my old Zodiac Red Point Diver is 40mm, but fits SO much better than the BBN. Go figure.

Yes, the sapphire is only available on the sapphire sandwich and while you get the display back it becomes significantly thicker.

Unless you are looking at an older 3570 for collectible reasons the only difference between the newer 3570.50 and the 311.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.005 is the 005 comes in the new bigger box with a bracelet tool, loupe, extra pins, NATO and velcro straps plus the bracelet has screws instead of pins. Pins don't mean cheap like some people think (my Patek Nautilus and Aquanaut have pins) but I will say I tend to like screws better BUT you need to use purple Loctite #221 or 222 if you never want to have to worry about them. plus they are standard screws instead of the crazy pin and screw caps on the Planet Ocean bracelets those freaked me out the first time I sized one, I was sure I would lose a cap.

Honestly, for the same money I would pick a 005 over one of the 3570s with an 861 movement just for the extra stuff. Now if we are talking about an early Speedy with a 321 movement then I would obviously take that.

My watch when I get my PE will be a speedy pro. Love those.

I'm around a bunch of ignorant people that think any diver is a Rolex. So a Tudor would make them ask a million times.

I like the breitling super ocean better anyway.

I would go new if i were to get one, and i have been leaning toward the 005, so I appreciate your insights, thanks.

Amazon’s had the 005 for anywhere from $3400 to $3800 over the last couple of years i’ve been looking (i’m obviously a very slow mover, ha) but of course it’s grey market with only i think a 2 yr warranty.. there’s a site called Chitownwatches, which i’m guessing you’re aware of; they have the Speedy Pro 005 with full factory warranty.. i’ve had my eye on one ever since i became aware of the site about 3 or 4 months ago, but they seem to be constantly out of stock, and when they do become available, i swear they go up by $50 every time i look, from $3800 in December to $4100 now.. definitely worth a little more to get the full warranty and certificate of authenticity though, IMO.

Marathon GSAR has always been my favorite under 2k.

I wear the smaller auto diver and I like it alot. I had to send it back once because the movement broke about 2 days after I got it, but it hasnt come off much in 3 years.
