Honestly that is by far the best option for anyone commuting. Old golden shores is where I would look,
What in the hell? You live in Lafayette, post that all places on the Northshore suck and then two posts later recommend Old Golden Shores? Which personality is posting next?

I'm hoping to make the move soon, and looking at Madisonville and Ponchatoula. Mandeville is just too fricking crowded now, and the persistent traffic pisses me off. I also hate how there are so many people everywhere you go, and lot sizes keep shrinking. Covington has too much traffic to deal with.
Madisonville has traffic at the bridge, but at least you can get a decent sized piece of property. Same with Ponchatoula, but the traffic moves to Kenner/Metairie. The earlier you leave, the better

Housing budget and whether you plan to send your kids to public school are two very important factors.
I live near the I-12/Hwy 21 area just south of Covington city limits and the commute into the city is right at 1hr.

If you are commuting, you’ll want to be in Mandevile. Madisonville is just a few miles west but the commute can easily be 20-30 minutes longer than Mandeville depending on where you live.
What’s your budget? That will determine where your northshore options will be.

quote:My grandparents lived there for a long time, and it is a good spot. Some of the places in Golden Glen are good as well. My family now all lives in The Lakes on Lonesome Rd, and it's relatively easy to get around town. If I want to go to the west side of town, I just take E Causeway to W Causeway. Only negative is that it's Fountainbleau zoned, but you can still go to MHS if you get permission

No. You’re going to be a resident. Do not live on the Northshore until after residency. You cannot commute that far as a resident— it is not fair to you. If you don’t want to buy on the south shore, just rent. I’m actually annoyed at your S.O. for you. But 3 years of your presumed pediatrics residency will be too tough with such a long commute.

We went East to BSL, I loved the commute down old 90.

Madisonville would not be good imo. That traffic on 22 heading west that way is a parking lot every evening about from where West Causeway hits all the way through. I wouldn’t want to be stuck in that.

Yea that's not a bad area, we are in Madisonville and I regret it, luckily not going to be here long. The traffic is only getting worse and there is only two ways across the river. If you are not commuting I would suggest going north and west, they are putting neighborhoods all the way to husser now but it is still a lot cheaper than STT.

Mandeville on the lake is an absolute dream. Covington is a cute little town as well. You really can't go wrong outside of Slidell.

If I could get some property, it would be worth being pissed off for a little while each day

Not sure how big your looking for but prepare to open the checkbook wide.
Folsom is probably your answer.

traffic to and from is obviously my biggest fear but my SO just took a job in Mandeville and she is finally convinced we should live up there vs. somewhere closer to the city
Oh, you have a SO? That changes everything. Definitely Mandeville. Swingers neighborhoods abound there.

Lakeshore Estates in Slidell

The only real answer is Killian. It is a little further but there is no traffic and the population is small.

OP said he wanted to start a family not start doing meth. That’s more than 20 minutes from downtown.
