Covington/Mandeville seems like the given here. Our office got moved to Covington about a year ago, and the traffic SUCKS. They need more places to cross the Tchefuncte River in this town, there are really only three and it seems like it takes an easy 20-25 minutes any time I need to run to the other side of the river for something. I wouldn't want to live in that area until the traffic gets fixed.
My vote is Hammond or any of it's nearby outlier towns that make Hammond your home base. It has everything you could really need, traffic isn't bad. There is no shortage of good, local restaurants, it actually surprises me how many are there and able to stay in business. Easy drive to Baton Rouge, NOLA, or the Northshore area. Avoid the Hammond Walmart is my only recommendation, seems to be crime central for some reason.

Madisonville is a festering shithole of murder, drugs, and satan worshippers. You don’t want to live there. The people here recommending it are doing so to lure you there to be robbed and sacrificed to the dark lord. Trailer parks as far as the eye can see. Homeless tent cities next to the Piggly Wiggly. Wild dogs and chickens roam the streets.

Agreed. I work in Covington but don't live there. I'd live in Covington or Abita Springs in a heartbeat. Traffic on 190 and through downtown can be atrocious at peak times but your not going to be at a stand still for too long. Madisonville seems like traffic 24/7

Covington/Mandeville area or Bay St. Louis. Easily your best choices.

A little over an hour but the correct answer is Grand Isle
I just went there for the first time. Unless you love fishing, that place sucks.
