It's a nice balmy 34 here right now.

Those temps were god awful. Glad the worst of it is past us. Crazy thing is it's supposed to be 50 on Friday.

I applaud you for being ignorant... Alas, no.

The roads, while infrasturally insufficient, are better than average across the nation. I have driven through all but 6 of the lower 48, I have not been overly impressed by the roads of any.

Schools in my parish have teachers which score well above the state average and slightly above the national average.

As for crime, I don't live in baton rouge or new Orleans. Though I do work in one and have a family home in the other.

I can't say I routinely feel unsafe in either, though perhaps I'm not a little bitch like some others. The facts are, crime is predominantly located in a few very specific areas of Baton Rouge. While it has increased in the touristy areas of New Orleans, it is still well below the levels of the late 80s and early 90s.

Neither of which affect me.

Even in those areas, a smile is typically met with a smile. I realize someone like yourself likely avoids eye contact whenever possible, so it's understandable you haven't noticed.

North Dakota? California? Lol, what metrics did they use here? How many parents and kids would pick North Dakota? There are some great parts of California, but a large portion of the population lives in shitty areas too.

Ranking this at the state level is really dumb.

So much of what makes somewhere a good place to raise a family is city or even neighborhood specific.

So I’m supposed to believe that I’d be better off raising a family in post industrial waste lands like Beloit, WI, Rockford, IL, or Youngstown, OH over places like Charlotte, Raleigh, or Nashville?

Come on. Yeah lots of family fun to be had in friggin Beloit.

I like downstate Illinois. But Chicagoland makes up 75-80% of the state which leads me to saying that there is no way Illinois on a whole is a better place to raise a family than Texas or Utah.

No way I would move to south Boston

Can't say I blame her. Normally it's not so bad, just dress properly and you're fine. But the past two weeks or so have been a "frick this I'm moving" kind of cold.
